In hindsight, I really wish that they would have made the deal that the Lakers did for Jeremy Lin. I can understand about being gun-shy about that contract, but I think he'd have been a perfect fit to transition Exum into the system. Plus, getting two extra picks would have been beneficial. It's interesting to me that the Jazz have basically traded for two players that they appear to have valued, and did so by getting someone else to pay them to do it.

Eh, I don't see Tomic ever coming over but I think Neto is annopyed he isn't here yet. His goal, unlike Tomic, seems to be the NBA. Just the impression I get.

Yep. He wanted to come over last season and now the Jazz have drafted yet another PG. I understand DL wanting to stagger contracts, but Raul has every right to be frustrated (if he is). I think this rule should be changed. Teams should be required to offer a minimum contract (guaranteed for 1 year) within two years to all draft picks. If they don't, the player becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 10th of the year after their draft. Players who are truly not ready will either not enter the draft or will still be willing to be drafted and stashed while they develop. But once they want to enter the league, they should be allowed to do so.
Isn't this the case with U.S. players drafted in the 2nd round? They come to camp and are either signed or cut?

Not necessarily. Pierre Jackson was a 2nd round pick and he played in the DLeague most of the year before signing a Euro contract and the Pelicans did not have to count him against the roster.

Agreed. Weird to just lock up players but they are restricted from doing anything. 2-3 years is enough time

Staggering contracts is just for the sake of leverage. The plain and simple fact is that the Jazz are hoping that Dante Exum is a 5/30 guy at the end of his contract. If he lives up to his potential, they'll do everything they can to keep him. They don't want to give him any room to negotiate opt out clauses into his contract.
Neto wants to be here, and the Jazz just got a big hole at the 3rd PG spot with the trades of Garrett & JLIII. It makes a lot more sense to me to have him locked up on a favorable contract for four years now and control his development stateside than it does to basically force him to take another Euro cobtract that they'll have to buy out. Also, if there's any chance that they'd consider shipping out Burke at the deadline, I'd feel a lot better about having Neto on the roster before then.

I don't necessarily disagree with this, but I'm holding out hope that the Jazz can cash that chip. I think he's developed pretty much exactly as they'd have wanted him to considering the investment. I also think that he'll fit in just fine into Quin Snyder's system. Next year would be ideal, because they won't have to buy him out, but I'd rather they just pay a fair price to get him and not run the risk if signing a new contract before they get him.
Like I said in the FIBA thread. . . I'm hoping that he looks good in World Cup competition and the Jazz seriously consider pulling that trigger. I think it would pay dividends to bring him over.
