Jazz visit The Gift Horse 12/26/17 7:00 MST

Man this offense sucks.

Rubio deserves a lot of blame.

But at the same time doesn’t DL need some blame too? After losing our top two scorers last year he decided to replace them with... Rubio and Udoh? Two guys not known for offense?

At some point we need to focus on our team’s offense.

If donovon wasn’t a ROY candidate and was just an average rookie scoring 6-12 pts per game, would our team ever get over 70 pts per game?

Why didn’t we go after swaggy P? Ian Clark? And other offensive players that could help us score?

We need to add offensive players. Does Memphis have someone we could use? They’re a team that’s in rebuild mode. I’d like to see us pull the trigger on a few guys. If we can’t upgrade our offense immediately via trades then let’s trade them for assets to use in next year’s draft.

I agree, DL ought to be scrutinized for this roster. The offseason didn't go the way any of us wanted it, maybe for Lindsey most of all. But in his defense when Lindsey realized the long teeze of Nerdward was finally over, there was not much left hanging around. The Jazz needed offence, but the market was played out. But Lindsey also saw the market was undervaluing defenders, so he doubled down on defense, hoping to turn the Jazz into the "Grindhouse" and hoping for scoring improvement from Hood and Rubio so the Jazz could score just enough. It hasn't worked, and maybe that is on the players.

The roster is significantly flawed offensively and I don’t fault DL or Quin for that. As per above, all our eggs were in the Hayward basket and rightfully so. Rubio is a bad move in hindsight (hell, he was a bad move in foresight), and I wish we’d spent that first rounder obtaining Beverley, which is what Houston was wanting before the CP3 deal, but whatever.

What I do fault, however, is the obligation we feel to Rubio and, more recently, Joe Johnson. Nothing is happening when we’re running things through Rubio — nothing. We have plenty of evidence for that. When JJ returned we somehow defaulted to him as a scorer and go-to guy when he should be eased back. Glad to see Jerebko has gotten some starts, though. I’m hoping Thabo sat last night because we’re saving him for GSW on the second night of a back to back. So far, it’s clear Thabo is contributing a lot more — and in a team fashion — than Johnson.

It’s been a long December... and there’s reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last.

I can't remember all the times I tried to tell my myself... To hold on to these moments as they pass

love that song favourite line is this tho;

All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl

beautiful stuff

And Donovan is just staggeringly good. I can't take my eyes off him. I'll say it again but there hasn't been a player that has blown my mind like he does since I used to salivate over Jordan in his first season. Living in Detroit I caught a bunch of his games and saw him in person and it's deja vu for me. He could have had so many assists last night. The wow factor is just insane. We are so lucky as fans to witness this.

I just wish the jazz had not traded all those picks. I still think we take Dejounte Murray at 12 and the OKC pick would have been a nice asset. I realize if Lindsey doesnt do those things, thats Haywards perfect out for why he leaves. Rubio was a CYA move in my opinion but unless a star is open that hes staying, i dont think you should trade picks for their favor. Especially someone with Dennis Lindseys track record.

Cool hindsight bro.

Tonight it became obvious Favors is not Gobert on the defensive end, and Rubio continues to just throw the ball away and is a complete liability on offense. Jazz need to make a move or two at some point. Rubio needs to go or be sat, and the Jazz definetly need Gobert in soo many ways. It’s been a rough month, but tonight was embarrassing and the way Rubio just throws the ball away is sickening. The Jazz have some bright spots for sure. Rudy and Donovan are still the brightest spots. Dante, Hood, and even Burks are not bad players. Joe Johnson is obviously on his way down. The Jazz are in a decent position and have some talent. It’s likely gonna be a rough year, but building around Donovan and Rudy is something to look forward to....Dante would be amazing to have at this point. Dante simply needs to stay healthy. This is definetly a rough year after building up to last year, but there are some bright spots coming....the Jazz need to try and unload some dead weight though.

Rubios probably a great guy, he’s not great for this team, and his turnovers are really bad turnovers that usually end in points for the opposing team. Rubio isn’t working, and it would sure be nice to have Dante and Donovan with Neto too. Heck call D-Will and sign him to a contract and I think we would be better off than Rubio.

Rubio is keeping our spot up 3 point shooters covered tightly. Then when the ball swings to Rubio, FORCED OUT OF NECESSITY, he does that stupid pump fake at the arc and drives into a crowd with nowhere to go other than to make an off balance shot or force one of his [stupidly high rate of] turnover.

In QS's system, everyone is worse with Rubio on the floor. Joe Ingles can barely get a three up with the defense laying off Rubio like Kobe daring Ronnie Brewer to shoot.

Looking back it seems like a steep price for a 52-game rental and a back-up pg. But I must admit I did like that playoff series.

I don't know if trades are a solution. No one outside Gobert and Mitchell have much value. Are you willing to give up a first round pick to be a little better right now? Not me.
When Neto comes back, could try starting him. He's at least hitting his 3s at 45% so defenses have to guard him.

45%? Wow

Watching that Kobe/Brewer dynamic has forever altered how I see the game. If you're on the perimeter and can't make a defense pay for playing like that, get the **** off the floor.

Glad we coughed up a 1st rounder and $20-something million for one of them.

saw that. was nice, other than that looks painful. tried watching the replay, couldn't

I would not say painful... excruciating is more accurate. There are some things you can’t unsee.

Honestly it was just a lot of missed shots... a lot of them were actually decent looks.

Only 15M... so yeah still a super ****** deal.

It was the right deal... doubling down on Rubio was rough.

The Hill deal was made with the thought of extending him. Then he set the world on fire first month... his eyes got big... switched his agent... didn’t sign... and then couldn’t stay on the floor.

I agreed with the Hill deal at the time but I also thought it would help convince Hayward to stay.

That is what puzzles me so much, everyone in the league knows Rubio shoots a flat clunker, in seven seasons he never changed it.

On the other hand the Jazz know you can't put a guard out there who can't shoot threes, Brewer was 10-years ago and the league has only gone more outside since then. Dennis O'Lindsey came from the Rockets and the Spurs...who both won by placing shooters outside and spreading the floor--so Lindsey knew better.

I suppose it shows just how desperate he was after Toe Hill shanked him and Nerdward was wavering in the doorway.
