Jazz vs Kings - 4/8/15 7 PM Mountain Time

Thoughts from the game. . .

The whole team looked tired in the first half, then woke up at halftime when Hood and Exum both decided to take over.

Hayward shouldn't be playing. He looked off and tried driving a few times but couldn't finish. I'm guessing it's his shoulder from that hard fall awhile back. Team started clicking when they sat him.

Favors quietly dominated the game, but didn't seem very aware on defense tonight.

Gobert is a freaking star in the making. So active for such a big guy. I loved his moves on offense to start the game. Wish he'd do more of that, even if it doesn't succeed.

Booker and Jingles are badasses. They harass and irritate their opponents for the whole game. I mentioned it earlier, but Joe is vastly underrated. He's got a weird-*** shot, but it goes in. And his defense is excellent. Very irritating. The Jazz need to keep both guys because they're helping to establish the team identity on and off the court. Joe is always messing around. Was throwing the basketball at the rookies during warmups. Cracking jokes and just being a genuinely awesome guy.

Burke and Johnson both played well when I paid attention to them. Burke tries hard when he's out there. If he can improve his accuracy on his shot, he's going to be a very solid reserve PG for this team and turn into a decent asset down the road. He has to play within himself though.

Exum impressed the heck out of me. I wish he'd look for himself first while he's driving, and there were a couple of times that he could have slashed, but held back. When he starts taking those opportunities, he's going to be fantastic. Hood was the star of the show though. Don't know why in the hell the Kings kept leaving him wide open, but he's damn near money when that happens. His shot is so pretty. Exumdid well getting open and hitting threes as well. Was impressed by the fast break that they connected on after Exum got that 1 on 1 transition play.

Play of the game was a tie between Exum's block and the fast break, Gobert with his little turn-around shot in the paint and Favors 1 on 1 block there toward the end. That was strait up will-power on that play. #hungry

Jingles should guard the inbounds pass at the end of the game. Always. He's so aggressive that I'm surprised he doesn't force more turnovers. He has great awareness of when and where the pass is going. If he'd been on the inbounds and Rudy was in the paint against Boston they would have won that game.

And last but not least. . . Quin Snyder is a badass coach. He's always talking and communicating with his guys. Jingles is always walking over and talking to him during down time. He talks to the guys when the come off. It feels like he has a great relationship with his players and they respect him. I was impressed.

Get out of my head

My son saw Jingles come up on the jumbo tron after making a big shot and he says "Wow! Old man has got some game!"

I turned and told him that Slow Joe is only 27 years old. His jaw just about hit the floor.

When did the exum block happen? I missed it.

Someone took it at him one-on-one (can't remember who) and he stayed in front of the guy and the player tried to bring the ball up for the shot and it went straight into Dante's chest and he lost the ball. Exum's really good at staying in front of the guy, moving his feet properly, and keeping his hands up.

That play in Sacramento on Sunday where he drew an offensive foul on Cousins was awesome. That's another example. It was right in front of me, saw Cousins throw the elbow and everything.

It was on a fast break. Exum had the guy driving to the basket 1-on-1. Dude tried to drive strait at him and Exum kept him from getting there. They credited him with a block on the play, so I'm assuming he stuffed him. It was hard to see.

Good sign that Exum looks better at the end of the season here. He had the biggest jump in competition that I've ever seen and he clearly hit the rookie wall BEFORE he was ins tere's into the starting lineup. The fact that he's playing great defense and looking better offensively as of recently is a damn good indicator of his work ethic and Quin's developmental philosophy. The game is slowing down for him. I want him to put on some weight this offseason and keep working on his shot. He's going to have a big jump in year 2 IMO.

I bet Hayward turns it back on for some of these last games. The dude just doesn't give an ish about playing vs. The Kings.

Sitting Hayward makes no sense to Snyder. He will reduce his minutes, but sitting him entirely without a serious injury isn't going to happen.

Yeah, if that's what he said, it concerns me. If a player's performance is being significantly affected by an injury, continuing to play them can slow their recovery and possibly lead to the injury getting worse. Obviously there are times when you take those gambles, but the last few games of a losing season shouldn't be one of them. Thibs has been a terrific coach in Chicago, but he will probably be going elsewhere, and it has everything to do with his policy of playing guys until they break. I hope the FO completely understands that if they take that approach with Rudy, I WILL be setting the building on fire.

Anyway, I'd like to hear the exact comments. I don't know if Hayward is playing injured or not, but if he is and they know it, it's very questionable decision making, and that's coming from someone who believes in giving management the benefit of the doubt 95% of the time.

I think Hayward is fine, Jazz are just seeing what other people can do in the offense. Look at all the freedom Gobert had in the 1st quarter this evening. They are running more offense through Favors, Hood, Exum, Booker and others now. Most people know what Hayward can do by this point. Hayward made a couple plays coming out in the 2nd half just to get the Jazz going a little bit, and then let other dudes continue to run the show. I think if they needed to win against a tough team they'd be playing through Hayward more like they have been all season.

At least, that's my speculation.

Probably depends on the type of injury. If the training staff said it would make a difference in anything other than a little pain there is no way Hayward would be playing.

The ESA crowd gave Sim a nice round of applause when he hit the hook shot by the way.

At the arena I tell people he's my uncle. I'm 33.

Snyder said it's not an injury thing.
