Jazz vs Kings Discussion at other site

I found a thread at RealGM discussing whether the Jazz or Kings would finish with a better record:

https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1409324#start_here

Am I just a massive homer or are there just a lot of morons picking the Kings to finish as a playoff team and above the Jazz?

I see the Kings as a model dysfunctional franchise. I don't see Cousins the way his supporters do and I think the situation with him and George Karl is a time-bomb.

People really think the Kings are a playoff team? What the...

Who knows but if the Kings end up with a better record at the end of the year, what're you going to do?

The kings are like the semi-good-looking girl you can find at any bar who knows her fair share of sports history and statistics.

She's loud, she's stacked, and she wins more than she loses when she calls her bookie. She's in her early 30s, but she clearly still has game. The only reason you haven't asked her out is because she looks a little mannish. She's kind of the "horse-face" variety of good-looking; she turns heads, but if she were riding a horse there might be a question of who has the longest face. And this quality is mildly horrifying. Still, she isn't a "cougar" (Lakers), so you allow yourself to work up a little intrigue.

When you finally do ask her out, she is able to play her cards well for about two or three months. But after that, the suitcases start filling the room like it's coming off the baggage claim conveyor belt at the airport. Any positives she exhibits are annihilated by the fact that she is a megalomaniacal basket case, complete with more daddy hang-ups than the dressing room of a strip club. Once the butt-sniffing stage is over, she unleashes an unprecedented litany of demands on you, embarrasses you with arguments in front of your friends, and you slowly begin to recognize the fact that her smile is like a dry wall screw that is tenuously holding the shattered fragments of her life together.

Her prowess at the bar is a cover for Kardashian-level dysfunction. Eventually, she begins policing you on social media. She asks about every girl you add, and monitors your feed. In this way she is like an air-traffic controller; nudging any potential collisions onto an alternate course (i.e., away from you). The confrontations you have with her smack of Charlie Sheen and Anne Coulter.

For some, her looks, talents, and abilities are worth the drama. But you know that by the end of the season she is going to be as functional and charming as a family fight just after a train wreck.

My advice: admire from a distance, and stick with younger prospects.

Craig ****ing approves this post. You are my brother, son.

Thoughts from that thread I agree with and thought as much when the Exum injury happened.

Exum was a huge part of the jazz's improvement in the second half. His defense was big for this team down the stretch. Burke is horrible and Neto is a rookie and no experience in the NBA. he will get torched by the likes of Westbrook Paul and others.

I'd like to think we are a playoff team this year, but I'm not putting my money on it.

So was Exum. If anything Neto is more prepared as he was playing in the Euros against grown men while Exum was not.

Sure the Exum injury hurts. Worse possible time but this team is built in such a way that they can over come that.

Exum is a much more imposing gifted athlete. A pg in a sg's body with elite defense on the perimeter. Neto is scrappy, but he will still get abused on defense. U can't deny the impact he made once put into the starting lineup last year. It's great that we can use pg-less lineups, but we will struggle with Exum out. Defense won't have the same feel of last half of last year.

Not trying to be a downer, and I hope I'm wrong but Neto won't be getting a lot of mins. Burke will. I'm just stating the facts as I see it.

Exum was a big part of the team success last half of last year. His value to the team last year can't be measured with numbers, but overall presence.

Epic analysis.

Couldn't help but notice that the Kings are just tearing it up so far. RealGM nailed that one.

In all fairness:

Kings have played
Clippers x 2
Lakers (their 1 win)
Suns
Rockets
Grizzlies
Warriors
Spurs

Jazz have played:

Piston
Sixers
Pacers
Blazers
Nuggets
Grizzlies

while Jazz were more road heavy and the Kings more home heavy, the quality of opponents hasn't exactly been the same. But still, a 1-7 record has to worry them somewhat.

Fairness? Who said anything about fairness? Suck it Kings!!!

Cousins have been hurt too and sat the last 4 games .. iirc

Which is what happened last season. Cousins got hurt early, the Kings started losing and Ranadive fired Malone, I wonder if Karl has tried playing 4-on-5 defensively so he can then use the Ranadive cherry-picking gambit on the other end?

There are always idiots (like Simmons) who buy into the Sactown off-season hype, and always end up scratching their heads later on. "Huh? The most dysfunctional franchise in the league isn't performing well? Geewillickers, who could have seen this coming?"

So I placed a couple bets with delusional Kings fans out here betting that the Jazz would have more wins than the Kings. I should have posted some of the texts they sent me... way more homerish than anyone on this site. One called me last night and asked me how I wanted my money cash or check? Reality is sinking in.

I wanted to rep this post just for the use of geewillickers, but it won't let me. Apparently I've got to spread some around. Where's ncoloradojazz to neg when I need him?

I'm pretty sure that Simmons opinion about Sacramento is consistently negative. He likes Cousins, but that's not the same thing as predicting team success for Sacto.

He actually said they would be better than utah on a podcast this year. Usually he's not that bad. Except about Boston. It's kind of surprising.

Wait. I was wrong. Reading another article about the kings I remembered that he said they could be good but their owner is horrible. He doesn't bad mouth cousins though. He is too nice to him because they are buddies.
