What's new

Jazz vs Mavericks | Friday December 3rd @ 8:30pm

Exactly Unlucky. Where was Boozer over the last 6 years when we needed him?
Usually in a suit acting like he cares from the sidelines.

We can, and will beat the Mavs with Sap and AL. I hope Elson is good to go as well.

Last year Millsap started against Dallas and had 25 pts, 9 reb and 4 blk.
That's promising; hopefully PM can repeat it. what stands in the way is Chandler instead of Dampier and Butler starting instead of Jason Terry or JJ Barea (each a starting guard in Utah's two W's vs. Dallas last year). In the Jazz wins, Okur had good but not outstanding nights, so it'll be good if Jefferson can meet or exceed that production.

Utah has a huge advantage in the backcourt, expecially if Price contributes off the bench. My lingering concern is that Utah's frontcourt must hold their part of the bargain; a Dallas triad of Butler, Novitzki, and Chandler (or Marion or maybe Haywood filling one of those slots) can produce some points. AJ and PM are on the right trajectory, and AK has been more quietly good, so there's hope to be had.

The difference this year is that the Jazz have defense....and the rebounding is coming along.

D.Will tires out Jason Kidd (especially running on him in the cool thin air of SLC)
Raja shuts down Jason Terry, while Deshawn shuts down himself.
AK shuts down Caron Butler.
Dirk tries to beat us all by himself and comes close, but can't.
Al Jeff scores on the Mavs' centers.

Our bench betters their bench with more energy.

And that's your ballgame.

...sounds about dead on right! Bookies have us as a 3 point favorite. Take the Jazz, give the points!

Utah bench a plus. I'm not optimistic about Millsap on Nowitzki (or Millsap on Butler if AK defense Dirk). I hope that Sloan carefully monitors Millsap's game and is quick (i.e., after 5+ minutes but not 1.5 quarters) to sub in Miles or maybe Elson (and/or move AK to defend Dirk) if things aren't going well.

Also, AJ is up against a lot of height in Chandler and Haywood. I hope that Sloan is judicious on figuring out who works out of Elson (if available), Fesenko, or Jefferson. Chandler and Haywood aren't huge scorers, so keeping in AJ simply for scoring purposes even if defense lacks isn't necessarily the best strategy.

Did you pass on these coaching tips to Sloan and Johnson? They really need it on time

I have a feeling that the refs are going to call this one real tight. Any sneeze on Dirk is going to result in a foul.

The NBA can't have Utah winning in the west.

D Steve is lookin to get da same homecoming as Lebron did yesterday...traitor

He is going to wish he never got traded

Hope the crowd shows up in a big way, and the team of course. This is as big as a game can get 20 games into the season. I want me some home court advantage in the playoffs this year!

Oh--I thought that Hopper was Sloan anyway, so all I needed to do was post it here.

Standing offer: taking over the coaching reins for 1/10 Sloan's salary. Consulting fees start at 1/100 salary.

I like how we match up with these guys....except for Dirk. But, I'm not worried if he goes off for 30 or whatever as long as we make him just a one-dimensional shooter by keeping him on the perimeter and not letting him get low in the paint and become a scorer and a passer. I think Millsap can do that job on him just fine. DWill and our bench is going to be a huge advantage in this one, plus, Chucker J is due for one of his 5-7 3-pt nights ...

As far as a prediction, I think we should be able to be okay after the early surge by Dallas and get another one of those "down by 10 or more in the 1/2 half then come back to win" victories.

99-94 Jazz

Just read the entire thread. Learned absolutely nothing about this upcoming game of basketball.
