What's new

Jazz vs Suns @ US Airways Center (1.4.13) at 7:00 PM Mountain Time / Telecast on ROOTSPORTS

I thought Ty's coaching was great today.
He saw that Watson was causing the defense to collapse off him and the Jazz were playing offense 4 on 5. Ty switched it to Burks and the defense respected Burks enough to guard him. Hopefully Ty can be more comfortable with Burks out there because Watson is shooting at Othyus Jefferian levels. Teams are just not gaurding him. It's amazing how little they respect his shooting.

Burks also changed the game defensively. With Hayward at 6'8'' and Burks at 6'6'', all of a sudden our athleticism and height is uncanny and tough to beat. Hayward's floater looks real nice. That was my first complaint about him last year and he's solved it. Good win.

Favors and Millsap = 20 shots = 23 points
BIG AL = 17 shots = 21 points

And you are saying to me that AL is showing no effort ?

I see you are sort of new here and for that I will try to help you understand something so you dont beat your head against a wall on this Big Al thing. There are a TON of posters here who, NO MATTER what Al does, hate him..On the other hand, most of these same people will defend Sap if he is 0 for 20 because he tries hard and plays with hustle. The best part is most of these same posters used to HATE Harpring, who did the same as Sap when he was here. Played very hard, with hustle and played above what his talent and size should have let him. Do not think you can change their minds or even get to where you understand why they Hate Al.

All of that said, I think he needs to go. My reasons are to free up time for our young bigs and to get picks. Roll with the youth movement..get rid of him AND Sap please...
but yeah, Big Al is easily our best player and has been for a while. That, also, is illegal to say here.

On offense maybe. What about defense? Do you just ignore that (are you on the Jazz coaching staff?). There are two parts to the game (at least).

I thought his defense has been much improved over the last few days. Will it last? I don't know, but one thing I'd like to see Al focus on is not taking wild shots that just have no chance of going in. He had a few of these in the first half, but he did do a lot better at this in the second half. I am happy with his performance overall he was aggressive got to the foul line, and his defense didn't hurt the team.

hmm., but IAM here to change something, everyone on this board has to realize how important AL is for our team. I think Millsap is the main-problem. We are to small in the paint becausse of this guy. AL is not the best defender, but to combine him with a guy like Millsap is just the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Favors, Kanter, BIG-AL are just true Big-Man however AL is not a good defender, he has a BIG-BODY and is a big presence in the paint area.

Just imagine a Big-Man rotation with Kanter, Favors and AL. Al has problems with his endurance 30 minutes a night would be enough for him, to show up his game. Kanter and Favors could get like 30 minutes a night, too.

Our real problem is that we have to many Bigs and that one of our Big´s is not a real BIG.

Millsap looked very good playing with Favors for long stretches though, and this is telling because Sap doesn't log much time playing with Favors or Kanter. You could tell he enjoyed playing with Favors, and was more active on defense, because he trusted that Favors would be there to bail him out on defense. If the Jazz want to resign one of them, it should be Millsap. I think he'd be cheaper, Al needs the ball and might hurt Favors and Kanter's development, where Sap would fit in as a support roll to Favors and Kanter.

Last year I felt The Jazz needed Al to play big minutes, as Favors and Kanter weren't ready for a bigger role. This year is different for me. They are ready for bigger roles, and it shows. Just like way back when the Jazz felt they had to let Dantley go to let Malone take a bigger role, the same needs to happen here and Al is the new Dantley.

Bro, the most important thing in the NBA is size and Millsap has no size. If you are playing with a PF who is undersized that much, than you are on a Big disadvantage. Mayba he can slip a bit and we can play him as a SF and Hayward as a shooting guard. This would be great, SIZE is the secret to succses. We have to go BIG.

Reread my post. I said Millsap can play a support role behind Favers and Kanter. If they are to be our future, Al has to go at some point. Al can't play a support role. Sap could have a future in such a role. In this role he wouldn't be asked to guard Allstar bigs but backup bigs, and a lot of those are undersized as well or have no offensive games. I don't hate on Al, but I'm a realist and that's how I see it.

Just want to point out we have size in Favors and Kanter, and it's good to have some skilled players coming off the bench, plus Millsap can spend some time at sf. Sap is a great asset coming off the bench, and I'm sure the jazz will find another big to fill some minutes here and there.

If big al is so important to this team then why have we won 7 games and lost only 1 game when he does not play? (the one loss was in double overtime)

The most important thing in the NBA is to have stars, in which the Jazz have zero.

If the most important thing in the NbA is size, then Hasheem Thabeet wouldn't be the Earl Watson of centers
