Jazz vs Wolves

But will Hood revert to his earlier level of play when Burks returns? Hood emerged last year when Burks was hurt, leading us to believe our wing problem was solved. But even though Hood started over Burks, he sucked for the first two months of this season. It wasn't until January, when Burks was out, that Hood's game picked up where he left it at the end of last season.

My worry is that Hood may be deferring to the "senior" man at his position in order to avoid conflict and it's impacting his court play. I hope I am wrong.

I think u are wrong.

Hood was injured and didn't play much in the first half last year, and key point is he was a rookie. He was mostly healthy after the allstar break and got better with the extra minutes.

Hood took plenty of shots to start this year, didn't seem to hold back on offense, his bad play can be explained as he was in a long and bad shooting slump.

That was a good game to watch. Wolves and jazz are so similar with youth and talent. KAT could be the Jazz nemesis for years to come. Fortunately jazz have potential to d up these great young bigs in nba. I was impressed by gorgi dieng (sp). He's pretty good. For jazz and wolves it will come down to system and coaching. Wolves are not doing small ball either...
.
Another note: wolves has some good tenacious d in first half and I felt they were better d in first half. The jazz clamped down in 2nd half. However, I didn't see just brute force effort from the jazz in the 2nd half. And harping commented on the adjustments. Can someone explain the adjustments and what accounted for the stark diff in 2nd half?

I dunno. Maybe there is a little something to the "differing to seniority" dynamic with Hood. Hard to know how much, tho.

It hardly matters at this point. He is a second-year player that has not fully become what he will be in this league.

The confidence he displays on his mid-range post game and his P&Rs is not only unique, but it is highly advanced for where he is in his career. When he reaches his prime, his game will be mesmerizing. The Jazz' offense will revolve around it.

Got to attend the game last night. Happy to get a free chick fill a sandwich last night. Best promo EVER!

NBA games are awful to watch. Mandatory timeouts, coaches timeouts, TV timeouts, 20-second timeouts. A team hits two shots in a row and the opposing coach is calling time out. It makes for a bad fan experience. The arena was pretty empty. The atmosphere was fairly bland. the excitement level got the highest for the Chick Fila Sandwich, next highest for free basketballs, followed by a missed fast break oppourtunity near the end of the Trey Burke & Trevor Booker run, and next highest for the Jr. Jazz basketball game at halftime.

KAT is amazing. He hit a couple 18 footers to start the game. Then he ducked and went to the hoop. He hit open three, he took what the Jazz gave him. He showed a high level of basketball smarts. The thing I liked most was his fire. He got pissed about Gobert pushing him for a rebound. He argued with the ref for a minute. blocked a shot or atleast broke up the play on defense then took the ball strong to the hoop. He will be the one of the next generation of faces of the nba. Amazing. I like him more than Anthony Davis right now.

Hayward ended up a decent line, but he was absent for most of the game. Prince shut him down.

Wiggins needs to play with more 3pt shooters. He would have multiple amazing dunks if he played for the jazz in Quins system.

Trey Burke sealed the game for the jazz. Him and booker pushed the jazz out to a lead. It could have been more of a lead if Booker didn't have catchers mitts for hands, but it might not have been a lead at all without Booker.

After Trey had built up a lead and the jazz were finally showing some momentum, Hayward came back in and the offense went through him instead of Trey. The offense immediately stagnated and Minny made a run.

Withey was awesome, need to see more of him. Lyles was fun to watch on and off the court. Jazz have too many good bigs and not enough wings.

Jazz went to Gobert early, and he looked like he was going to have a big night. Then there was a timeout and the next play was a called play for Favors and then one for Hayward and soon Gobert was forgotten.

Parking at the Hyatt only costs $5 but you can't get out after the game.

When I park at the Hyatt for games I go eat after to avoid that problem.

Yea, well I ended up on some old pioneer road that wound around through some scary neighborhoods, then through an industrial waste land and then somehown onto Warm Springs road. I finally got on the freeway at 1000 North. You know, Salt Lake sure is an ugly city after you go beyond the commercial façade.

Also, Dieng is a player. It is possible that Minny can claim victory in the Burke for Shabazz and Dieng Trade on the merits of Dieng alone?

Saw all the highlights on ESPN last night when I was eating late at The Pie. About ten Wolves highlights and literally zero Jazz highlights.

I wonder if there is a way to figure this out. Is there a stat that shows shot attempts per minute? If so then one could look up Hoods shot attempt per minute with a healthy burks and without a healthy burks to see if he defers more.
I would assume that he probably shoots more when burks is hurt because he needs to shoot more while burks is out since we are down one of our offensive weapons.
Would be interesting to see the stats though.

Also, take into account Rubio's DRPM is probably boosted by the fact that his backup is a terrible defender, LaVine.

RPM stats are based on: (1) strength of your teams' playerS on the floor with you; (2) strength of team's players on the floor with you; and (3) point differential of your team versus other team while player is on the floor.

How your team performs while you are on the bench does not have an effect.

Rubio has been elite DRPM even when Lavine was at UCLA.

Bingo.

Favors is such a game changer. He took his game to a new level this year. A big reason why the injury hurt so much. He can finish in traffic down low.
His post moves. His mid range jumper (havent seen him hit this since his return though). The defense. More emotion. I saw him directing teammates to spots.
The guy isnt a huge star or anything, but hes a a boarder line all-star like Hayward. The Jazz are a lot easier on the eyes with him back in the line up.

I totally agree. Kid's legit.

Would be great to get Alec back and really start to roll. Jazz have looked pretty good though for the most part since Favors return to the lineup. They need to seriously go on a good run to keep us in the hunt.

More trade discussions with Twolves fans. For the most part they are quite knowledgable fans. Been a pleasure talking to them.

Bummer. Burks and Burkes are literally the two Jazz players I covet the least.

Favors is definitely too good to deal for potential. I agree with you there. I chuckle when fans think he's easily attainable.

Hood is a guy that I would be very interested in. I think his recent stretch will make him close to unmovable for anything we would actually give up.

I don't think I would trade KAT for anyone in the league right now. He along with Wiggins are the guys that are untouchable IMO.

The Favors part is funny as we've seen some crazy bad trade ideas from fans of other teams, but they really love Favors over there.

Yeah, but it shows 20 year old centers being really bad, so Towns would be an extreme outlier being this advance.
The point I was countering is that bigs in general reach peak more slowly -- which the data refutes. I doubt the 19 year sample size is statistically significant and even if it is, not relevant to the trend.

Of course any one great player could be an outlier. Duncan and Malone clearly bucked the trend.
