Jazz want Sap?

Last year was a bit of a nothing year, the team didn't have any direction. Favors needing significant PT, while Jefferson is a lock to start.

This year we know that Gobert will be ready in 2 years time. So the FO can probably guarantee Millsap that he can start next to Favors over the next 2 years, with Kanter 3rd big off the bench. The certainty of a starting role should be much better for Millsap.

No, no, no, and no. I understand why Jazz fans like Sap, the underdog small guy who works hard. Understood. But he is what he is and he is not going to get better. He is not a guy to build a team around or lead anyone far in the playoffs. Now, he can play and serve a useful role for some team. With the Jazz, their mindset and his mindset will be that he MUST start. Does anyone really see Ty manning up and bringing him off the bench? Or Sap accepting that?

And why in Gawd's name, do you want him to start over Kanter? Kanter is 4 inches taller, many years younger, more talented, and has a much higher ceiling. Start Kanter now. Let Sap go: the baggage he will bring will hold back the two young bigs. There are plenty of serviceable bigs available.

Sap will be back if he will come at the right price. The Jazz are not trying to tank but they are trying to keep cap flexibility for multiple reasons such as trading for picks before the deadline and signing several of their young core to max deals.
