Jazz wanted Ryan Anderson?

Can you imagine how BIG we'd be if we moved Anderson to SG!!!?

The fact that the Jazz are the ones that started the talks involving Millsap in a trade makes me think the Jazz want Favors to start, and Millsap probably doesn't want to come off the bench.

that's not how i took it, especially since the blog says that the jazz are the ones who backed off from the deal. i think they just realize they have 3 starting-caliber bigs and they're looking at options to clear that logjam. this one didn't make sense, but my guess is they're still looking at options. doesn't say as much about millsap as it does about their overall situation.

suddenly my hope is restored that we're NOT going into the season with the al-paul-derrick mess. PLEEEEASE take jefferson!

For all we know Orlando over valued their guy, the Jazz call it off. Orlando sees the writing on the wall and get what they can for him. I see no other reason to trade Millsap for Anderson if Millsap has no problem coming off the bench. Just because the jazz backed off doesn't mean anything, remember the jazz did initiate the trade talks, and Anderson would've been the perfect guy coming off the bench for Favors.

I think the Marvin Williams trade is as good or better than a Ryan Anderson trade, especially because we still have Millsap for another deal. Marvin Williams isn't quite the 3-pt shooter, but he'll get his share and he'll also play defense. I think the Jazz have a clear vision for how they want this team to shape up, and they're aggressive about achieving it.

Honestly I cannot blame Millsap. He thinks he is worth 10-12 mil a year. To get that contract on the free agent market he needs to start and play big minutes. It is a problem for our team. But it just means he needs to be moved.

Anderson obviously was an outstanding 3-point shooter and a good rebounder. A willing but not so athletic defender. Had to be a tough call for the Jazz, as Millsap is not a great offensive weapon in any one area, but does have a ton of intangibles and is more creative every year at finding ways to score. And last year he learned to use his hands very effectively on defense, creating a lot of turnovers and outright steals.
With all that, he could be a superb 6th man, but needs to get his head into that concept. Still don't like him as a starter; this SHOULD be Favors' year... If not, I think we got ANOTHER problem...

no small point.

Anderson will get overpaid and won't continue to perform like he did without Dwight. I'm glad our FO didn't overvalue him.

I would love to see Ryan Anderson in a Jazz uni. Perfect fit and he gets it done on both sides of the floor. Glad to have MWill but would have rather hand Anderson.

I think I like Marvin better especially in the Western Conference where you really need a big front court to get those rebounds & with the physical plays. He just needs to be a bit mobile to guard scoring SF which I think he can improve on at P3.

Also the fact that we only had to give up Devin (and not Millsap) to get him is a plus.

A couple points:

I tend not to think the Jazz were targeting Anderson OR Marvin Williams. If both had worked out at decent prices, I think the Jazz would have taken that.

We probably all think Anderson could have worked well as Favors's backup (he's not a 3). But, like Paul, he's earned starter's minutes and salary. We'd probably have had similar issues with him as with Paul.

umm....

anderson in april, when dwight played a grand total of 80 minutes: 16.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, .8 assists, .5 blocks, .7 steals, 43.2% FGs... all right at or better than his season-long numbers (16.1, 7.7, .9, .4, .8, 43.9%).

i agree with your overall point that he's not a good defender and less of an all-around player than paul, but the dwight-specific part of your comment was a bit of a leap.

I think you're right on with this. Also the Hornets are a good place for RA as he will be their #2 scoring option. That team might be pretty fun to watch as he will open up a lot of space for Gordon to exploit offensively, and Davis lurking around to clean up. Anyways he's a nice specialist in this league, a lot better than Bonner.

Im sorta sold on the Marvin deal. He got picked high for a reason Id like to think..Has he lived up to it? obivously not, not even close, but he might show something more with a fresh start....at least Im hoping...I like his D also much better than Anderson..

I think you are implying that Millsap said to them or has let it be known that he doesn't want to come off the bench.
I'm not sure that's the case. I believe they know most starting players in a contract year wouldn't want to lose their starting spot.

It's pretty much a given. They respect sap, and probably want to help him out if possible. Actually, Orlando wouldn't be a bad fit for him.

If they could get Redick an Big Baby for Millsap, I would do that.

I prefer Millsap to Ryan Anderson, but Big Al and Anderson could have been a dangerous combo. On offense, they would probably be better than Memo and Boozer were. Both have good size, so it wouldn't be a situation where the power-forward would guard Memo on the perimeter and the undersized Boozer would have to shoot over a 7-footer.

and on defense, they'd be even worse than memo and boozer.
