Jazzfanz ALL-TIME Fantasy Draft

Bro, Maravich could pass the ball. He may have some turnover issues from attempting too much razzle dazzle and forcing it, but you can't honestly say that he wasn't a great passer.

Pistol Pete is also one of the most skillful players to ever play. Too bad he couldn't guard anybody, play on any good teams (in his prime), and the 3-pointer didn't exist. I had heavily considered him, but he lacked D and intangibles that I'm seeking.

Bill Walton compares Pistol Pete Maravich to Steve Nash "except taller and more athletic"... I like his assessment.

Let's be honest... If Pete Maravich played defense at any respectable level. He would have been picked in the first round of this draft. His offensive skill was that good.

Probably. Contrarians love to remember the reasons he wasn't perfect, but the guy was just a special player. The Beta version of Magic.

I know I'm not supposed to be supportive of others.

I'm going to play a "top ten" of Pistol Pete's defensive moments. He could have played good defense... if he wanted to.

Also, something interesting in this clip. #6 @ 0.34 sounds like the "Hot Rod"... did he call games for the New Orleans Jazz?

I also heavily, heavily considered Barry. But I just didn't feel good enough about his D, he seemed like an awful teammate, and being of a more forgotten era can affect how people will vote for these teams anyway. This is about as much for good reasons as bad. The bad reason to not know is to not know or care about the history at a base level. The good reasons are that the rules of the league are significantly different, as are general levels of competition, as are fitness standards.

I would probably take Reggie Miller over Ray Allen, but it's a close call.

I would also rather have Duncan than Robinson and Mourning than Ewing. I'd rather have Numb's combo because Duncan can actually play PF naturally. I'm not psyched about Robinson as a PF because he can't really put the ball on the floor or hit jumpers from more than a couple spots.

Shilling. You think I forgot Allen existed? Come now.

You didn't forget, just like ECTYA didn't forget about Magic Johnson.

(This is all in fun, Reggie and Ray are obviously very similar players. But I do think Allen was slightly better.)

I can totally understand Duncan over Robinson, but not Mourning over Ewing.

Just a little warning, I'll be fairly busy tomorrow, so I don't know how well I'll be able to update the first post with the picks. I'll get on as I can, but just bare with me.

Night all.

You did very well at moderating this so far, we'll try to keep it that way in your absence.

Why'd you call nightmare a female horse?
I was thinking more of the dark area on the moon.

For his sake, I'm hoping he just left out the apostrophe. Like he meant to say 'mare.

Yes, yes, it's definitely true.

Sorry, but there is no way that Niko Galis was better than Dirk Nowitzki is. Dirk is approaching top 20 NBA all time status. Sabonis may have achieved that had he been allowed to come over in the 80's (before his Achilles injury). Petrovic was a great shooter, but I don't think I'd put him above Dirk, either.

That's the main difference between you and us sir, our viewpoint isn't just NBA-focused. Not to mention that they are vastly different players, in terms of playing positions. However, of course I respect your opinion even though I kindly disagree.

This is just silliness. Ewing could very well have played power forward if he had a David Robinson behind him. He was that gifted offensively. The only category Duncan beats him in is rebounds per game & championships. Ewing was a blocking nightmare in a center dominated era. Duncan can't put up Ewing numbers against midgets. Ewing could also grab a steal and go coast to coast, & is one of the best mid-range shooting big men of all time.

Championships might place Duncan higher on the all time greats list but that doesn't mean he was a better player than Ewing.
