HOLY ****ING ****. I literally just vomited after reading the first chapter in Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk... I can't finish this book. I should have know, I should have been prepared KNOWING who wrote the book. But nothing can prepare you for that... Nothing.

Apparently that chapter was actually it's own short story before he published the book. My wiki sources tell me that he tried to print two stories, but the second got rejected for being too disturbing. And knowing how disturbing 'Guts' is, I cannot fathom the content of the rejected story.

I read toilet walls.

True thrillers tbh.
Here I write on bathroom walls,
And roll my **** in little balls
Those who read my lines of wit,
Are the ones who eat the ****

Finished the Tawny Man trilogy. Robin Hobb is top notch at character development. She could tell about Fitz chopping wood for 3 days and it would be entertaining. But her overall plot was lacking, and once again dry and boring by the third book.

I don't think I'll read the new one that just came out after a 9 year absence.

LOL!

I remember reading a book some years back that was based upon a friendship that developed between two college students who got to know each other by sharing conversations on the wall of a stall in the bathroom. It was a pretty good book - don't recalll the title though.

"Friendship Smells"?

Just finished Gone Girl... That book is just ****ed up. Seriously. And tbh, completely trash ending. Heard she wrote a different one for the movie which is good news

gripes about the ending in the spoiler...

and it's not even a call for tradition or justice... and it's also not a misogynistic attitude opposed to a woman coming out on top..

Well maybe it is a call for justice, but it's a bitch who literally ruins the life of anyone in her life who missteps. It didn't have to be justice... Maybe just karmic retribution. That bitch needs to quit winning.

I saw the movie last night. I believe that the ending was basically the same.

Also, for those planning on seeing the movie....... just a heads up, it is EXTREMELY R-rated.

There was a husband and wife sitting next to me that brought a kid that was probably about 8 years old. Horrible movie for a kid to see imo

Bag of bones is a good book.... and it gets better as it goes on imo.

I should have known that the guy who thought "Cell" was a top-notch piece of literature was not someone to be trusted. Man, Bag of Bones was terrible.

Here's a fun twist on my current reading; I just started reading The Book of Mormon for the first time. We'll see how it goes.

Since my advice has been so on point so far..... skip the book of alma

Nice.

I'm only interested in reading it because of a recent obsession with ancient civilizations. More specifically, the ancient civilizations that lived almost literally in my backyard. I found "something" while exploring the deserts out here that has really shaken my foundation. I just started reading the BoM, but within the first five minutes I already had goosebumps.

One of these days I might say more.

Interest piqued

Wife's working late tonight, could probably read another book. Anyone read we were liars? Love a good mystery, but I'm thinking it could be toooooo teen girl for my taste.

I don't understand why people love Palahniuk. His entire body of work can be summed it with "look just how little **** I give about everything". And all the characters are stock personalities, or they sound just like Chuck Palahniuk. Granted I only read Diary, Choke and Rant. But I feel like I should get an award just for getting through them.
