What's new

Jazzfanz Bookclub

I'm in the middle of The Deathly Hallows. I forgot pretty much ALL of this book considering I read it the day it was released in a 12 hour stretch. It's terrific!

Archie, you should read his "The World Is Flat" book as well. I think you might like that as well.

From a liberal who reads the New York Times: Thomas Friedman is a hack.

I liked it. A deserving Newberry winner.

It's on my list of books I want to get to. I also want to read From Beirut to Jerusalem and The Lexus and the Olive Tree. I heard those were good as well.

Along the line of business-related/non-fiction books everyone should read one of these:

Similar premises. Both well-written and very interesting. I like books that make us challenge our assumptions.

a good story and a quick read - a non-fiction account of Hurricane Katrina and it's aftermath and how it affected one particular family, not only the impact of the wind and water, but the impact of the U.S. government's response

not a book I'd recommend that dutchjazzer read...

I recently read Lost Souls by Dean Koontz. It is the 4th novel in his re-imagining of the Frankenstein story. I think they are pretty well done and show some serious creative thinking. This one ended pretty abruptly, even for a cliff-hanger-style ending, but on the whole it had me pushing buttons on my kindle faster than a fat kid trying to get a stuck twinkie out of a vending machine.

Koontz is awesome. I have preferred his work over Stephen King's over the last 15 years or so.

Can't remember if I posted in this thread or not.... but some of my latest are..(in order)

Ghost Solider
The Stranger
Death to the BCS

All 3 are completely different genres but each one was very enjoyable.

If you can slog through it (written a lot like a text book) Guns Germs and Steel is a really fascinating look at how those 3 things shaped our history.

I didn't feel it was a slog of a read at all. Awesome book. National Geographic did a series on it as well.

I agree with you I enjoyed it. I just add the slogging part because I have had friends tell me "that was hard to read" so they are forewarned. The NG series was very well done too.
