JazzFanz Official Draft Rumors Thread '13

It's only 1 player... and with how scattered the picks are, I don't think 1 player makes that much of a difference.

Sorry A-Train, but I think if I'd take Green over Larkin, just for the upside.

I don't even know why I am awake right now.

Anyways, I am all down for taking Green at #21 if and only if the Jazz go big/wing at #14 and Schroeder and Larkin are both gone. Not really sold on Canaan, right now Green > Canaan.

.. and he's a senior .. so he should be doing some things better than guys a few years younger..

Yep I can live with that.

I didn't say I don't like him.. but you asked what's not to like.. so here goes.

He's a SG. He is not a PG (could he become one? Maybe).
He is pretty slow for a 6'3 guy. Not a very good defender at the next level, imo.
He's a fantastic college SG. Too small to play SG in the NBA .. and neither a PG in the NBA. He's a niche guy.

What's the main thing separating him from McCollum then? Similar age, similar height, both scorers, both undersized SG trying to play PG?

McCollum is a more cerebral player.. much better bb player than Green. McCollum is also generally a better athlete.
Sometimes it's just between the ears ... and that's where CJ bests him best.

Everytime people mention Erik Green, I remember this game were BYU's Zylstra (former walk-on 6'6" below average athletic) shut down Green.

4-17 against some length. If his skill is a scorer who is that going to translate? Burks, Hayward, Carroll or anyone else with length would crush him.

Not specifically because of that game.. but I agree.

Lots of good stuff in this video for those who hasn't seen it.

You can see his improved passing game at the 6.06 min. mark.

I got high on Green when Catchell made his argument for him, I went back and watched everything I could get my hands on. I think McCollum is better, but I can't understand why McCollum is projected in the lottery, but Green is projected in the second round. In that draft express video, Green seems pretty "cerebral" and conscious of what his game is at this point, and how to make it better. He's honest, and I like that.

I've said my peace. Don't want him for the Jazz. Have at it.

Cool thanks for your input. I do agree it'll be a BIG reach at #21.

Jazz were reported to have made inquiries about grabbing some 2nd round picks, may be they could plan on using one of them on Green/Wolters/Canaan.

We'll say.

#21 for #31, #33? Could work I suppose. I would feel a lot more comfortable taking Green at #31 or #33 if he got passed the Spurs.

Back to the rumors.. haha.. classic stuff:

Flip Saunders @Flip_Saunders

Have to chuckle at all the trade comments, proposals and some suggestions. DO enjoy them but please think first lol.

well.. this is as wide open as it gets...

Spoke to lots of GMs last night. No agreement on who Cavs take at 1. Some convinced Noel. Others insist it's Len, Bennett, McLemore, Porter

Cavs are going to take Noel, they are trying to sucker other teams into trading up for the pick, imo. #1 option is a trade, #2 option is Noel.
