Jazzfanz: Racist, Sexist, Anti-gay remarks Ok. Swears and All Caps Not Ok.

So, the OP wasn't very clear, his complaint is about the ban on ALL CAPs. And the thread is out of date by a few weeks already, because that ban no longer is in force.

Just curious, do we need a multi-dimensional self-test on our expectations from others. . . from management of forums like this, from the participants, and from spouses, bosses, and every other conceivable method of regulating personal conduct, versus the idea of accepting others more or less as they are, and taking the responsibility for our own actions?

Some of us just like to babble, bottom line, willing to get in the mix on any terms.

Thanks, ya'll.

I've found the Jazzfanz GD board is a nice little slice of Utah sports fan americana. It's given me a unique look into the psyche of the typical Utah Jazz/sports fan that I was never really all that familiar with.

I suck at sports. I'm short. Not athletic. I've done just about everything "non-sporty" one can do to their body throughout my young life. I made fun of jocks in High school and took their abuse as well. All in all, I've generally been a "**** sports" type of guy. Until I fell in deep, deep love with the Utah Jazz.

Since joining JF and sharing my love of the Jazz with others, I've noticed that many of the stereotypes I had of "sports-types" reins true on these boards. Lots of ignorant, racist, sexist, anti-gay remarks are the norm around here, with barely a bat of an eye. While the minute anyone even hints at violence, cussin, or other dirty things neg reps are spread and even infractions.

This is bull ****, and I think it has to do with many factors. One being that Utah is a conservative state and somehow calling people camel jockey's and disrespecting women is cool in those circles, for some. Another is this board is run by members who feel its important to enforce some moral rules (family friendly) on this board, but definitely not when it come to a MODERATOR calling people camel jockey's. Call me a hater all day, but I'm calling it like it is. There's a double standard being enforced here and its stupid. OB may go far in his critiques and posts, but the dude is the only one here who brings more truth, which many here are unable to process. Why? Cause it proves you are who you don't think you are, or don't want to be. A dick.

I know this has been brought up many times and we've hashed through it. But don't you think it's funny that there are maybe 2 women who post on this site. We've pretty much scared off all the gay members. This board is a collection of young to middle aged white dudes, and some of them think it's ok to call other races "colored". ****ing wow.

I have no idea where I'm going with this, but reading the GD board lately has made me feel like I'm participating in some kind of closet white power rally and it's making me ill. Think about it folks and please share your thoughts.

You are basically describing religious Anglos. I do not know why u are shocked finding Utahans offended by cuss word but not racism and homophobia. Have u never been to Denny's at five am? Hay, go there and listen to old men talk about Jesus will come to burning the **** soon I swear i hear this thing every time. On golf course is even more bad.

I tried to leave this board one time and pulled it off for a few weeks on the grounds that it was infested with morally backward troglodytes. But I love basketball and the Jazz and quite like a number of people here (Gameface Poker nights are the best). So now I just generally stay out of this forum and laugh in dismay when the basketball conversation somehow strays into Thriller calling someone's (beautiful) wife 'some irrelevant kind of cute girl' or Beantown obsessing over everyone's wives at all times.

Anyway, what I really wanted to say is that Peter is one of my very favorite people that I know and I will always back him.

Is there a particular thing that sparked this thread that I should and shouldn't know about?
