Jeff Withey Needs To Stay

Very undervalued player. Jazz almost can't even take credit for that, but I am happy and not complaining.

Also crazy to think that Gobert averaged 2.3 bpg in 26 mpg, if he avgs 35 mpg does he avg close to 4 bpg?

the crazier thing is opponents just stopped going in there. He lost a lot of block opportunities because teams just gave up trying.

As far as his mid-range jumper: the jury is still waaaaaay out. He's proven very little offensively. If he had, there's no way he would have fallen into our laps.

He's white... it doesn't necessarily mean that he can shoot though. Honestly though, just catching the drop off passes cleanly and dunking them quickly is all I ask on offense. Grab and offensive rebound every now and again for a putback and don't set a bunch of illegal screens and he's gold.

Doesn't good ft shooting usually translate to having the ability to shoot 10-15 ft shots at the very least. He was available because he hasn't really had a chance to show what he can do

I agree to a point, but not all head coaches want their 7 footers taken jump shots which is something the Jazz don't believe in. Even Pleiss took an open 3 pointer vs the Lakers, granted he missed short, the coaching staff had no problem with it.

Looked for myself, Gobert's OPP ATR % is 40.4 in 82 games played which is WAY higher than anyone else in the league.....Ibaka is at 40.8 but in 64 games

Is it safe to say that Mr. Go!bert is the man!?!?!

If you are able to get position the charge is actually a much better play regardless of size. I believe Splitter does this a bunch. It's much more manly to block a shot, but there is a chance the ball bounces to the opposing team and they still score. Take a charge and you get the ball and the other player leaves with a foul. There are good situations for both plays.

Centers get posterized all the time as you cited. The play I hate is when guys turn away from the play because they are afraid of ending up on the poster.

By going for the block, successful or not, you make a statement. A statement to the other team that says, if you come into the lane, I'll lay you out on your ***. By going for the charge you invite everyone into the lane because you never took ownership.

This is all sorts of wrong. If you take a charge guys will be just as hesitant to come into the middle, because they don't want to pick up another foul. There is also a ton of contact taken on a charge and is a play that can be dangerous for the driver because they are generally hitting the deck too.

Do you play? I've been upended by guys taking the charge before and I would much rather a guy try to block my shot than take the charge. It's also a much easier play. To block a shot cleanly it takes a ton of timing and even then you may get called for a foul.

If a player is driving in the better play is almost always to take a charge unless you are an elite shot blocker like Rudy.

Always been confused by New Orleans move to sign Ajinca for 4/$20 mill when they had Withey, who provides much better rim defense, who would've come back for the minimum. I guess we will see how that works out for them. Definitely think Withey should make the team.

I keep forgetting that the Jazz are several mil under the cap. So yeah Johnson makes it all season unless a trade happens. Then most the roster is game.

I don't even think Johnson is the 15th man.

That really does not change my post any. If it is Withey or Cotton the post would still have been made by me.

It still would have forgotten about the cap space as well lol.

But who is your 15th man?

Id say (if they have to cut someone rakings):

15th man. Johnson
14th man. Withey
13th man. Millsap

I'd put Cotton and Withey below Johnson. And, even though these guys won't get cut, I'd place Johnson above Tibor and Raul on the depth chart. Those last two may pass him mid-season, but that's where I'm at right now.

I'd say that Neto, Neto and Withey are clearly ahead of Johnson on Snyder's chart just from PT. he has been sticking mostly to who he will have on his roster. All speculation/opinion of course.

I agree that Johnson is ahead of Cotton.

Will be interesting to see.

Johnson was sitting out due to a concussion for the first couple of games. He's just getting back into the swing of things.
