Jeff Withey Signed

Do you think it was possible that the FO didn't realise Whitey was available before they went out and got Pleiss?
Did it again a couple of times with the "Whitey" remark. You have to be a closet racist. :p

Pleiss was part of the Kanter trade so they got him way before Withey was available. Pleiss has some skills and there's that famous saying that you can't teach height. TBH, Gobert didn't look all that great today, either. Maybe the coaches will have Pleiss make a few adjustments in his game and the NBA will suit him better than Euro ball. No problem having three legit centers, coaching them up for a year and then deciding how to proceed. Pleiss and Withey are both pretty cheap. As far as a roster spot, it knocks Cooley and probably Johnson from the team. Not really a big impact.

Don't forget post #136, too.
I'm just giving you a hard time. I don't think you are a racist. It's just a hilarious typo unless you are so PC you can't see the humor in it.

Haha.. I see the humour in it, just not sure all the "sharks" around here see it the same way.. haha..

Not a chance, they know perfectly well who is and who isn't available. Withey is borderline NBA player...(Pleiss might turn out to be the same too, or he might turn out to be useful rotational big). There is a reason Wothey didn't get a guaranteed deal and it's not because it was his dream to play in Utah and refused guaranteed money from other teams in order to try out for us.

I've never seen the intrigue of Pliess, I think we are just hoping he'll be good due to getting him in the kanter trade.

Regardless of how we got him we hope he's good because he's an unknown and as long as Gobert and supposedly can shoot. So there is intrigue there. We could've gotten a ham sandwich for Kanter and I'd have been happy all the same.

I don't see Withey as a borderline NBA player, he just hasn't had a decent chance to show what he has.

I hope.
A few years ago, some team probably would have paid $5M for a guy like Withey, just because he was big. But now, most teams are looking for smaller, more active guys inside. So the price goes way down. Utah is definitely taking a contrarian approach to the "small ball" philosophy. And it just might work. Jazz have a unique commodity in Gobert. If Withey can become Gobert-lite defensively, maybe the Jazz will usher in a new "big" era WHEN they win a championship.

I think DL got him just as an asset. We will pick up his option next year, and when the cap and salaries sky rocket, teams will want dirt cheap serviceable backups.

Both really good points. Some good contribution here folks.

Looks like he's starting to show it. I liked what I saw last night from him.

So did I. Whitey was pretty decent out there, even more so Tibor Stiff. The jury is still out on whether he's suffering from ES.
