What's new

Jefferson to Spurs is dead!

Damn, I hate it when my team is looking like a solid lock for the play-offs, and they decide to not trade their best scorer and most consistent rebounder.

What I am wondering if Al doesn't end up back with the jazz for a good price. 40% of the league is going to be free agents, the attendance is down, the luxary taxes are looming, LAL and LAC have their money all tied up, NYK, Bulls and Nets are all basically capped out. SAS are sitting at 50 million next season and still have to sign Splitter and Ginobli---who is going to pay Al big money?

This. All of this.

I would not mind a bit a starting frontcourt of Hayward, Favors, and Kanter next season with Marvin and Kanter off the bench.

I think there are plenty of GM's for bottom feeding teams in the league with plenty of cap space who would love to create the illusion that they're actually accomplishing something by signing a guy like Big Al.

If Al would play every game like he did last night I would be perfectly fine with him signing long term. However, last night was not normal. I hope it was a sign of where he is headed. Maybe a tiger can change his stripes.

Al has been playing a lot more inspired lately IMO. I don't know what it is, but he looks better and more aggressive. Seems like I started noticing it during the Bulls game.

Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Orlando (probably not enough room even if they cut Hedo and Harrington loose), Philly (if Drew leaves), Phoenix, Sacramento, San Antonio (if they don't re-sign Manu).

Loads of teams with cap space this summer. Loads.

Not to mention that al will most likely be regarded as the best free agent center if Dwight resigns with the lakers. He will be pursued, there's no doubt.

He's been a major part of Utah's last three wins, having great games against GS and OKC. I wish he and Millsap would go to KOC and say, look, we love it in Utah, we'll both agree to play 24 mins each and take less money so Enes and Derek can also get their mins and continue to develop. When Al and Paul play this well, it's hard to consider trading either. I think that's the dilemma the Jazz FO faces. And in the end, I think it's why no trade will be made.

Jazz want to retain at least one of Millsap/Jefferson. And I honestly believe their preference changes over the course of a game or two. Having the rights to BOTH likely ensures they'll be able to keep at least one of them. I'd hate for the strength of the Jazz (having a great rotation at the 4/5) become a weakness if we only have Favors and Kanter and the 3rd and 4th bigs then become journeymen like Collins, Elson and Fesenko.

Great post MoTown. It's not always as simple of a situation as we the fans sometimes make it out to be.

Cap space maybe, but they all have RFAs, thier own FAs and other players to target. NBA Free Agency has been crazy, and crazy things can happen but really Is Al Jefferson going to be the #1 target of any of these teams? Cap space can disappear rather quickly in July. Besides from what I read around here, Al is barely able to stay in the league with his ball hogging, lazy att, and bad defense. The other teams got to know that, right?

Maybe I am overestimating the rationale of the owners by believing that the impacts of the continued world wide recesion combined with the new luxary tax rules will somehow get the collective group to stop acting like a teenage girl at the mall with her mother's credit card, and start acting prudent.
