Jeremy Evans - Best Undrafted Rookie according to David Thorpe

According to David Thorpe who's been checking out the Orlando summer league Jeremy Evans is his favorite "undrafted" rookie so far. On his twitter feed he went on to correct himself and say that he was drafted in the second round, and gave the Jazz FO big props for not only drafting him, but having such great success in the second round with the Miles, Millsap picks. He likes Evans a lot, "not just because of his hops and length, but because he plays the game the right way." He even goes as far as to say that he should have been a first round pick. Let's hope he's seeing something that will translate to the NBA game, nonetheless it's some pretty encouraging words.

He looked good out there today. Active. Trying to get open looks for himself and teammates. From what I saw, definitely warrants at least a camp invite.

No offense outside of two feet, though. That's a real problem with his game.

He has a good game today. Played really hard, got some block shots, made a few shots, and played within the system.

I wouldn't go so far as saying he's a 1st round pick after one good summer league game though.

I'll be honest, so far I don't see what is special about his game, but lucky for him I didn't see much special about Mathews last year. I remeber watching the pre-season scrimage at the ESA--Mathews ran the plays, was in the right spots, but there was nothing eye-popping about his performance.

I guess I'll never be an NBA scout.

Wasn't Thorpe the one that was high on Fes? I think is eye for talent and, what will become something in the league is pretty ******, if you ask me.

Fes has talent, just not the brain or the work ethic. Fes could be really good if he just would do it.

Evans looked about 10x more comforatable out there today than yesterday. Initially I thought he had no shot at making the roster, but hearing Walt Perrin talk about him I think he has atleast a puncher's chance at being the 13th or 14th man or so. Definitely has NBA athleticism if not an NBA game yet. Gotta see more of him this week and preseason, but letting him spend a season in Orem and seeing how he develops could be a good move.

He should replace Jeffers. Jeffers has zero potential and sucks, at least Evans has potential (according to coaching staff).

Different positions but I'd agree, obviously shooting is the major weakness in Jeffers' game and he isn't even looking to take a wide-open mid-range j, it's always just ducking his head and driving to the rim. Even Brewer could make the occasional 15-footer, but Jeffers' can't and isn't nearly the athlete, finisher or off-the-ball cutter Ronnie was.

I remember watching Jeffers blowing layups last season. Ronnie Brewer is one of the best finishers in the NBA.

It's not even a close comparison at all. Jeffers sucks and shouldn't make it to camp.

Evans just needs to put on some muscle. He is getting knocked around all over the paint. He had a couple of explosive moves to the hole as well as that great block. I think he has promise, it's just a matter of if he can get stronger.

That was an interview with Walt Perrin, who said Evans tested better athleticallythan Dwight Howard did at Tim Grover's gym.

I believe it, but he is also a few inches shorter and what, like 50 pounds lighter...at least. Doesn't mean all that much really.
