RT @Monroe_SA: Observing Spurs camp today: Jerry Sloan

I'm not surprised that he's at someone's training camp. I am surprised that he hasn't re-surfaced as another team's coach though.

You are not getting it. Sloan still works for the Jazz as a spy. We are not getting swept by the Spurs this year.

He's going to join Pop's staff for the vet minimum just for a shot at a championship.

Or maybe Scotty is considering firing Popovich and replacing him with Sloan.

So sad. Into the sunset Jerry, into the sunset.
Why is it sad? The guy can still coach. It was KOC and Greggy Boy that forced his hand. He wanted discipline and respect. If a guy is quitting on his teammates and not running plays, something has to give. The FO either sides with the coach or the player. Orlando sided with Dwight over SVG. Utah sided with Deron over Jerry. And in both cases, the player was dealt anyway.

WE don't know why he's there. Could be in a coaching capacity. Phil Johnson was a former COY and then became Jerry's assistant. Or he could be there under the invite of Pops or Scotty Layden to assist with player evaluations. If the guy loves basketball/coaching and misses being around the game, then by all means he should pursue whatever job he feels suits him. In fact, maybe he wants a lesser role due to his age and "consultant" is his way to be involved, but not have to be on the road for 41 games every year.

Pop and Jerry are good friends. They always have spoken kindly of each other's coaching ability.

From reports over the years the Spurs are his favorite team. I could really get behind Jerry with the Spurs. I like most everything about the Spurs as they represent what we try to emulate, but they're good. That being said, I hate Tony Parker. If Nash and Parker could swap teams that'd be awesome.

It's cool that Jerry is at the Spurs' camp. The Jazz have had unemployed coaches at camp before, right?

I just picture that scene from looper when people give him crap for staying involved in basketball "just do what old men do and die"
