Went and did it, they said my turn signal didn't work and that it was rusted and needed to be fixed. They charged me 15 dollars. Went home, checked and every single light works fine. Went back and told them, they said it would need to be tested again and would cost another 15 dollats. What the ****????!

if you paid for a state inspection and a repair was needed then you have 30 days to either do it there, somehwere else, or yourself. if you return within 30 days they do have to reinspect to verify the repair, but they legally cannot charge you again. you can even bring it to any other inspection station for the reinspect and they cannot charge you either. if you wait more than 30 days they can charge you again.

Call the utah highway patrol if you feel you're being ripped off. They will investigate it, they take it quite seriously. 801-322-1817

Hey chris do you like to golf?

Got my oil changed there last week, not only was it like $10 more than any other place but I went on a road trip that weekend my car started to struggle and smoke started coming out the front, I pulled over at a service station and apparently they had overfilled the transmission fluid quite a bit and hadn't used the right kind, so it almost blew out something in my transmission. Idiots.

Went to A1 and they looked at my paper, checked the turn signals and gave me the passed paper. Was in and out in less than 10 minutes didn't charge anything. Would recommend. **** Jiffy Lube.

I wouldn't give them a single dollat.

I've been ripped off so many times by mechanics, mostly due to my ignorance regarding car repair. I really have a hard time trusting most of them. When I find one I can trust I do my best to go to him exclusively.

I have no idea what you're talking about here. Where do you live and what are these state inspections about? Also, you needed someone to tell you that your turn signal didn't work?

In Utah no one uses their turn signal. Using your turn signal guarantees you will not be allowed to turn or change lanes. If you broadcast to another Utah driver that you intend on moving to some part of the road they will make sure to take over that part of the road and give you dirty looks. Kind of opposite of most of the country where signaling allows other drivers to make space, in Utah it naively gives other combatants insight into your next move.

So this attitude/ cultural particular stops people from checking their signal/ brake lights on a regular basis? Once a month, when doing laundry at the folks place, I have my Dad confirm my lights when standing behind my car.

Overachiever.

Nah dude. It's the least you can do as a driver of a weighty machine. Just the other day, I drove up a long a taxi at a stop light and told him both his brake lights were out. That's like a recipe for disaster right there.

It is as much your ignorance as it is the "mechanics". If you pay for a repair that your vehicle didn't need it's more likely the mechanic who recommended it doesn't have any clue wtf he is doing rather than him trying to rip you off. Shop around, find a good shop with trained technicians, and don't go anywhere else. These "speed lube" shops that hire kids out of high school give the whole industry a bad name. I've spent hundreds of hours in classrooms learning my trade, thousands on the job, and I'm nowhere close to where I want to be as a professional.

Well stated.
