I just posted this on Chicago's Real Gm Forum and will be interested to see what they say:
"Jazz fan here: Rodney Hood, Alec Burks, Trey Burke, GSW 17' pick in a good draft, 18' Okc pick
For
Jimmy Butler
Why for Jazz : get eastern all star wing
Why for Bulls: get a up and coming wing starter Hood, 6th man stud Burks on great contract, back up PG, and 2 firsts.
What about #2 pick straight up you might ask? I personally don't think #2 is near the value of what Rodney Hood already is, let alone a starter/6th Man in Alec Burks. Then when you add a great back up PG and two picks I don't think you can do much better for a star who is disgruntled.
Consider the last 6-7 #2 picks:
Russell
Jabari
Olidipo
Derrick Williams
Kidd Gilchrist
Evan Turner
Thabbeet
#2 doesn't usually turn out to be KD. Despite the similarities he is more likely to be Marvin Williams (#2 as well) than the next KD. Ingram looks like KD but that is likely where the comparisons end. Jazz give you at a minimum the next Kris Middleton in Rodney Hood, a potential 6th man of the year candidate, a good and developing back up PG, and 2 future picks.
You will likely ask for #12 this year, but I question if the jazz would even offer one of the two that I am throwing in in this package.
Thoughts.
Is it fair value?"
Honestly, I think it is a huge haul for Chicago, and I really don't believe we need to give up both picks to get the deal done. Chicago is said to be seeking a starting wing, a rotation player, and picks.... well this deal meets all of those criteria and they get a great player in Rodney.
My next step is to look at if the Jazz would then want to flip Butler to LAL for #2 and Julius Randle. The Chicago forum is listing this as a possibility, and I think LAL would be willing to do #2 and Randle but not #2 and Russell. That said I think our deal is better for them.
As far as Randle, I would try to flip him to Sacramento in this draft for #8. At #8 and #12 we could do a combination of 2 of the following: Wade Baldwin, H Ellenson, M Criss, Luwawu, Richardson etc. My preference is W Baldwin & Ellensen.
This trade would give us the upside of what Ingram (#2) we seek, but we get to keep Gordon. I think long term it would give us the upside we need, it resets the contract situation better for the team going forward by giving us 4 more years before we need to worry about an extension for Ingram, whereas Hood is a year away etc. Plus I think Butler has some baggage that might not mesh well with at least Gordon, and I would feel better about a future with Ingram being our star, but still allow for Hayward and Favors and Rudy to carry the team while Exum and Ingram slowly take over.
THoughts.
