Joe Johnson Coming to Utah

Well I'm working 12 hours of overtime today and working on the 4th of July, then have to do a 12 hour shift from 2am - 2pm on Tuesday and another 12 hour 2am - 2pm shift on Thursday. Add in all the not sleeping due to baby stuff and all the diaper changes..... I'm living it up this summer too!
Yikes!

6 AM here. Got things to do.
America was once great. People used to sleep in on weekends.

Turnip will bring back weekend sleeping-in to America!!!

Yet still, #neverturnip

From CBSsports website free agent analysis/predictions from a week or so ago:

48. Joe Johnson*SG / Brooklyn NetsAGE:*34*STATUS:*Unrestricted free agent

Analysis:*ISO Joe just keeps chugging along. He averaged his fewest points per game in 13 years (man, Joe Johnson's been around a long time) but still managed to shoot 44 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3-point range at age 34. He's as durable as they get, a good locker room guy, a total pro and can play three positions at this point. He's still tough in the post, still a sneaky good playmaker and a guy who has absolutely zero fear of the late-game shot. Johnson is likely only available for super-contenders. He nearly signed with Cleveland, which could use him, but if the Warriors are looking to re-stock their bench, Johnson would be a prime candidate for a ring-chase rotation guy. If Johnson is looking for one more big deal, it gets hairy. A sizable two-year deal for a mid-level playoff team might be OK.

Good fit with: Miami, Cleveland, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee, Golden State

So I guess we're gonna be pretty good.

Are we now officially a veteran team?

Personally I don't like this deal or hate it, but I hav a feeling they will the next year.

Damn, you have feeling they will like or hate the deal next year? Pretty hot take: The Jazz will have an opinion on Joe Johnson a year from now.

Read the post again. I said I didn't like it or hate it but that they would hate it the second year. Never said either or.

I don't think your original post said what you think it said.

Look at the versatility we now have:

Three point lineup:

Hill
Johnson
Hood
Hayward
Lyles

Defense:
Exum
Hill
Hayward
Favors
Gobert

Uptempo
Burks
Hood
Hayward
Johnson
Gobert

Veteran
Hill
Johnson
Hayward
Favors
Gobert

We matchup vs everyone. Snyder has to be giddy tonight with all the possibilities.
Makes you realize what a gem Hayward is when he is the main guy in every style of lineup we can put out

The way I look at it, JJ took a pay cut to come to the Jazz. He wants in on this action.

Hayward is going to become a league-wide star this year as he leads the Jazz to a 55 win season and deep into the playoffs. I believe that with every ounce of my being.

Then the league are going to play up his hot wife.

We've clearly moved into the WIN NOW phase. WOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!

I was surprised by this when I got up this morning. Pleasantly surprised. Guess we'll see how it works out this year but seems like a good move.

If you accept the narrative that he unexpectedly bit when Jazz front office was making a courtesy call then he must really want whatever was offered, and I don't mean the 22 million. That pitch must have been sexy to him. It comes down to him being promised minutes/starting, a role, or both.

I am just throwing this out there, but maybe Joe was thinking of his post career options. If he wants to get into coaching, then choosing a young team with a lot of talent would allow him to showcase his mentoring abilities. A dramatic rise from 9th to 5th or 4th seed in the West reflects well on everyone on the team, but think of what it does for Joe's resume' if he were applying for an assistant coach position. Just a thought.

Great point.

I think first and foremost he thinks that the Jazz are on their way to being contenders. Second, I think he wants to play for Quin. Third, I think he views this as a way to extend his career since he doesn't have to be THE guy and won't have to play big minutes. Fourth, he probably relishes the chance to mentor this incredible group we've assembled.

I think he's the type of guy that has made his money, doesn't need the hype that goes with a big market team, and just wants to wrap his career with a great organization and enjoy the challenge of being a part of an up and coming team.
