Joe Johnson Coming to Utah

Hey look it's LifeOnaPlate, looks like he doesn't like the signing or DL.

Jody Genessy DJJazzyJody Emails from a guy does not think fondly of Denis Lindsay. https://twitter.com/LifeOnaPlate/status/749315621607710720 …

I think you're confused. I'm not the angry emailer. I asked Jody what the hashtag he was using referred to and he explained it pertained to the angry emailer. I like the signing and I like DL.

Did anyone watch enough Joe Johnson last year, I guess in the playoffs, to give a viable opinion on his defense? Good defender? passable defender even?

oh god why did someone have to raise the specter of Raja Bell 2.0 ... man that totally backfired. And was a somewhat similar move too, a solid vet who was supposed to be able to shoot the 3 and provide leadership. .....I'm gonna push it out of my head. I like the signing, a lot. Probably would have preferred Dudley, but it seems like 3 years was a sticking point for him. For us, prob cap reasons we had to do a 2 year deal.

I would think JJ is vastly more talented than Bell ever was. Also, Bell probably would not have had a problem with Quin but maybe. I guess you never know.

He's a passable & strong defender, but he isn't quick or fast anymore at this stage of his career. I think he would be better defending 3/4 than 2/3.

Yep, we aren't the main rivals for the Lakers right now. That would be the 76ers and Kings, as rivals for the title of crappiest team in the league. Someday when the Lakers don't suck anymore, then maybe they can be considered our rivals, but they're going to have to earn it. Nobody gives a **** how good they were 10 years ago.

Sixers have young players with potential and a ton of assets. Henke screwed up the culture and nailed asset management. Sixers-Wolves finals in 2019. Lakers have no cogent strategic plan. The brand they relied on to land talent is gone. And players avoiding latter day Kobe ensured an ongoing slide. I am happy to say they are in a deep hole and still digging.

No doubt about it. He's always listed at 6'7", but he measured at 6'8" at the combine. 6'8" 240-245 (i think he weighs more than that these days) - one of the few 3s who when guarded by LeBron or guarding LeBron, didn't look smaller. There is no question he's a 3/4 these days.

Miami's Offensive Rating was 114.8 (!!!) when Joe Johnson was on the court. 104.7 when he was off.

Miami's Defensive Rating was 108.3 when Joe Johnson was on the court. 103.8 when he was off.

Take that for what it is worth. My opinion is he is just average or maybe slightly below average at this point. I do think the projected second unit of Exum/Burks/JJ/Lyles with Favors or Gobert could score and score a lot against opposing second units.

I watched a couple of his games last season and I totally agree with One Love. Johnson's lack of quickness at this stage of his career would be exposed on the perimeter if he's kept there for too many minutes, but he is savvy, big and remains in good shape. I think he should split time between 3 and 4. I like the idea of using him regularly as a 4 for the sake of spacing and having an additional ballhandler on court.

He's clearly replacing Booker... giving the spacing that Booker never could. I don't expect to see him at the 2 this year.

Agreed. That said, we aren't going to ask him to play a huge wheelbarrow full of minutes. But he gives us the ability to create mismatches and match teams in certain situations. I'm loving this more and more.

I realize that there may be some disappointment that the Jazz were not more active in the free-agent market. But when I see the types of salaries being thrown at players who are in my opinion marginal and are unlikely to do much to move the needle in terms of making the team competitive, such as Byombo, Mozgov, Turner, I am glad that the jazz did not get caught up in this insanity. (yes I realize that the salary cap increase needs to be taken into account and look at how much money some of these free agents got, but I still think the teams massively overpaid for some of these free agents and are going to be regretting it down the line when they see that these free agents haven't really changed their fortunes much.) I am satisfied with the acquisitions so far and I am glad the Jazz didn't overspend and thus limit our ability to resign our key core members down the road. I would still like to try to see the jazz sign a stretch center. But if this is all that happens during the free agency., I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome relative to what a lot of the other teams are doing. As I've noted before, our starting lineup was not the problem last year, but our problem was the bench. And with the acquisition of Hill and Johnson we have substantially strengthened our bench added depth added shooting and added veteran experience. I am confident with what we have we are poised to make a run next year for a good playoff seeding if all falls into place while also retaining the flexibility to re-sign Hayward and Favors and Gobert down the road.

So we add basically 4 new players next year, all pretty good. I like the direction of the team and Ia pumped for next year! Just wanted to share!

This one wasn't on the top ten, but pretty great. Even the announcers couldn't help but laugh. I could watch these all day.
