Joel Embiid will be #1 & He is my choice

Again, I think there is lots of ways we don't pick Parker. I don't think Parker has a position on Defense that he can defend. I look at players like Derek Williams, Anthony Bennett and Carmelo and Big Dog for that matter. Some thrive in the league as tweeners, some don't... but none have thrived at both ends of the floor. If we are drafting 4 or 5 and Parker is still on the board I would take him over some players because we need a scorer but I have issues building a wing rotation that can't defend the perimeter and thats exactly what we would have if Parker/Hayward/Burke were our starting back court and wings defenders.

Who Parker defends at the next level is a very real concern. Don't forget what Zach Lowe of ESPN always says... as if it is a revelation: "Defense is 50% of the game."

On the topic of defense: Who defends Parker? He looks like a tough cover. Defense is 50% of the game so it would be nice to have a player the other team can't defend.

Why? From what I have seen so far he has size, reach and speed to be a very good defender at SF.

I dont doubt that Embiid will be good, but Im not sold on the whole next Hakeem. Its very unlikely that he will reach that level. If anybody is going to be the next Hakeem its Anthony Davis.

I love Parker and think he is going to be great but I also believe Wiggins will be too. So Im taking him first. Trying to hit the home run.

1. Wiggins
2. Parker
3. Embiid
4. Randle
5. Smart.

I doubt his lateral quickness and overall speed to defend the small forward position. He routinely gets blown by when closing out on guards. I believe like Carmelo his best postion is as a undersized 4.

I am in the camp that Embiid will be the next Hakeem. He has defensive and offensive skills that I have not seen in any prospect big in a long time. I drool at the thought of pairing him with Favors. That would be a low post combo that would pile up championships for years. Burke, Burks, and Hayward would be more than sufficient on the wings. Plus I think a combo of Kanter and picks could get us back into the lottery for another wing player in this draft. Hood, Harrell, Young, Harrison all look underrated to me. Embiid or bust!

As I see it, these are the players currently in the league who are arguably top level offensive hubs who can also function as either perimeter stoppers or elite interior defenders (rim protectors, pick and roll defenders, whatever):

LeBron James
Paul George
Russell Westbrook

A pretty rare breed.

Parker sucks. He doesn't play good defense.

When I think of the top wings in the league I don't think about their offense I always think of their defense. Bruce Bowen is the best SG in the history of the league.

I worry about his defense too but I will say that he is close to the same size as lebron (a tweener) and lebrons defense is pretty good

And tony allen..... member in the draft that had burks, people were saying how chris singletons defense was so good he could be a lottery pick.

I take a superb offensive player over a superb defensive player every time

I was anti-Singleton big time.
Was also pro-Rivers..

Our team needs a real night in and night out offensive threat. The other players can pick up the slack on defense, since they'll have the energy after Parker makes their lives easier on offense.

Favors and gobert are both going to be crazy good rim protectors, hayward can handle almost every 2 gaurd (not sf), and burke has shown some decent defensive nights (with some atrocious ones). Parker's plusses far outweigh his minuses. If you could show me a truly elite 2 way player that also fits a role on this team, I'd be interested.

So you would take Carlos Boozer over Mutumbo?

Dont think any rule like that should be applied to a drafting strategy. Its a case by case bases.

I don't see Embiid being the next Hakeem. He's one of the best centers in the history of the game. Don't forget his passing and stealing ability. Embiid will be really really good, but I think he's a project. He won't impact the Jazz right away as most big men need time to develop. I still wanna see how both Parker and Wiggins play in the tourney before I decide who should be #1 in the draft.

Ya I probably take a prime healthy boozer

Most are over-simplifying this.

It largely depends on who's anchoring the post. If you've got shot blockers that lack offensive game then you NEED wings that can score more than defend.
It just depends on the overall makeup of the team.
