John Stockton on the Dan Patrick Show

I'm just not sure any of these idiots watched him play, not sure how u can watch him play, then say he wasn't all that. It blows my mind. What matters most is that there isn't one former player who ever played against him that said he wasn't great. Even Jordan in his HOF speech said they still had stuff to settle, even he acknowledged his greatness.

I hope fans of other teams don't read this thread, it feels like a stain on this fan base what a complete joke that I have to defend the player Stockton WAS to some idiot supposed jazz fans.

Dude, if you really worry about other fans reading this, you have problems too. Lol

Not going to deny I have glaring issues, what's your point. I'm about as messed up as it gets. What an idiot!! I've been a jazzfanzer for how long, and you're just realizing?!?! Not the sharpest tool in the thread are ya.

You and me both, dude.

Because that's not what he was told to do. He didn't call plays either. Just because he was 100% coachable doesn't mean he wasn't a great player. That's really quite a weird position to take.

I imagine something that's important for a (pure) point guard is being an extension of the coach on the floor, and the sets work best when everyone knows where they're supposed to be at all times, and it enables him to throw the pass INTO/AHEAD of the play, like a quarterback.

Stockton wasn't a crutch-leaner, he wasn't weak-willed, and he wasn't whatever garbage it is you're trying to hang around his neck for a reason I cannot understand. It's frankly offensive as a fan of basketball, saying nothing of being a Jazz fan.

I dont dislike Stockton or dont think he was a great player. I just like debating Thee on it and bringing him back to reality. I dont like even like arguing against Stockton. Im a big fan. I like to be realistic first before a fan though. This really just stems from a past argument when he said he was better than Steph Curry. This was during the 2nd MVP year for Curry. So I know how high the pedistal Stock sits on for him. Stockton was not better than Steph Curry and Ill argue that til Im blue in the face

I think Stock would have been in the MVP discussions if not for being overshadowed by Malone. Those Jazz teams were realistically one solid piece from beating the arguably best teams ever assembled in Jordan's bulls at that time. But no one beat Jordan's bulls in the finals. Literally no one. So it isn't bad company really, and not a thing to be ashamed of. Even LeBron has lost more finals than he won.

Curry was a better shooter that is all. He also played on more talented teams. He wouldn't have been as good on those Stockton teams. Please fool!!

So, you just like sounding stupid. Stocktons 5-6 best years were better then Nash's two MVP seasons. Curry is looking up at Stockton punk!!

Might wanna read that again.

Additionally, how does Stockton not get credit for the finals teams?

Go ahead and resurrect this thread the next time someone averages 15 assists a game.
Stockton does get credit but he was not nearly a 15 assist guy. The second finals were not much stats from him. Those years are mostly Malone carrying the team.

Again, when Stockton was averaging 15 assists and 17 points the jazz were getting upset by worse teams in the playoffs in the first round.

In 96-97 Stockton averaged 16 pts 9 assists.

In 97-98 he averaged 11pts and 7 assists while playing 8 less minutes then the previous year

Yep, that is clearly a decline. Those are not elite numbers but still good. Plenty of players put that up .

How many players averaged 16 and 9 last year. Stats alone don't measure the value Stockton had for his team

Probably 4 or 5 guys were pretty close to that. And lots of players put up 11 and 7. That 11 and 7 year is the best year for the jazz. The had the best record and highest elo that year.
