....Jon Barry was criticizing Lebron's decision to pass to a wide open teammate on the final shot last night, suggesting instead that he should have forced up a shot himself, despite being doubled or even tripled team! Jon Barry evidently has not heard of or bought into the "team" concept of basketball....hit the open man for the highest percentage shot possible? It wasn't until Jordan started believing in his teammates that he started winning championships. Jon Barry is not as smart as his father Rick was.....who ALWAYS promoted the team concept of basketball in his day! Jon Barry is a basketball DORK!

Whatever he said last night, during Jon's playing days he definitely did believe in the team concept. He was a team player by the strictest definition of the word.

In a vacuum, LeBron made the right play.

However, given the circumstances, he made the wrong play. He ran off the pick a little early, so even if Haslem made the shot, Jazz had time. Haslem hadn't shot the ball in awhile. Only had one make (from same spot) I think early in the fourth or in the third. James was 8/9 in the fourth. He hit the ridiculous shot from about the same spot seconds earlier. Had another three from same spot earlier. He had the hot hand. Millsap was still laying off. Howard wasn't set well coming off the screen. James could have easily taken two more dribbles, step back, and get a pretty uncontested shot. Given the way James was shooting at the time, I believe it would be the higher percentage play in that situation.

....well, then, you are really "Darkwing the Dork" rather than the Darkwing Duck! No matter who might have the hot hand, when you call a time out and set up a play, you run the play to the finish! In this case, it must have been clearly stated in the time out for each player to be ready for a pass as there were going to be more than just one guy wide open with all the attention Lebron was going to draw. Lebron could have gone on his own.....but the higher percentage play was the pass to Haslem, regardless of how many minutes he had played or how many shots he had taken! You yourself said Lebron has just made some "ridiculous" shots down the stretch. How long do you think that was going to continue? Odds were overwhelming on the side of Haslem making that wide open jumper. The time remaining was a non factor. You can't base your offensive play on how much time is left for the opponent to score....when your BEHIND in the game and need to score to take the lead! You set up a play for the best shot/opportunity to take the lead! You worry about playing defense after you take the lead, don't ya think? Lebron made the right play.....the smart play.

LeBron making an 18 foot fall-away, given how that fourth quarter went, has a higher chance of getting in the basket, hence a higher percentage, than a wide open 16 footer from the free throw line area by Udonis Haslem. Thus, the smart play is to take the shot.

....I go back when gasoline was 22 cents a gallon, and they would sometimes have "gas wars" which reduced it to 20 cents a gallon! They'd also wash your windshield, check your oil, and make sure you had the right amount of air in your tires.....while the gas was pumping! Old school pitching, from the likes of Koufax, Gibson, Marichail and Drysdale....would absolutely KILL these baseball players today, that's for sure! Mays and Aaron would have hit 1,000 homers each if they played in these modern "banjo parks" and hit against these AAA major league pitchers today! And oh, by the way, the wide open jumper will ALWAYS be a higher percentage shot than the forced fadeaway turnaround jumper with a defender growing out of your ear!

I googled "ornery old man + good old days" before making that post and read exactly this on the first 7 or 8 blogs that came up. I expected you to plagiarize this in true Trout fashion. FYI, you left out back when "cars were made by artists and not windtunnels or [well trained] engineers", "unfiltered water was healthy the lead based poop won't kill you", and "medicine schmedicine, I can cure anything with bacon grease", but go on.

.....yeah, love those well trained engineers.....I just spent 700 bucks to replace a fuel pump, most of the cost going to labor because one of your well trained engineers decided the best design was to put the fuel pump IN THE GAS TANK, so that it would have to be removed to replace it when it goes bad.....and it will go bad! The fuel pumps back in my day were right up front and could be replaced with one wrench and a new gasket and took all of 10 minutes to do!

In tank fuel pumps are superior yet such a simple idea that, in hindsight, it's hard to imagine ever doing it another way.

As to your point of costing $982 or whatever... competent real men capable of using simple mechanical tools and reading a manual can change an in tank pump in about an hour for a few bucks. A lot of men have become weak minded and are too scared to turn a wrench. So they take the car to the dealership as their wives tell them to do.

...you have to drop the gas tank to get to the fuel pump. So your suggesting I jack up the car, crawl underneath it, and do all of that in one hour? Or maybe you think I should invest in a $5,000 lift, so at least the car will be up in the air over my head and easier to access, while dropping the gas tank to get to the fuel pump?
