Sadly this is true ... and what assets do we have? They can do better than a lottery protected pick, and I don't think we're in a position to offer anything better.

The Jazz are crazy if they give up anything for Crowder. The Celts need us not the reverse. Screw Danny.

I think a sign and trade happens. I just find it hard to believe insiders like Woj and Zach Lowe would bring it up if it wasn't actually being discussed. And it's too convenient for both teams to not happen. I'm not sure we'll get Crowder. It might be a player(s) on cheaper contracts like Terry Rozier instead. But if we get the huge trade exception it's still definitely worth it over getting nothing.
I'm sure they talked about it, but couldn't come to a deal. Now ainge is probably weighing all the options

Are Boston fans that stupid..? They are saying that we need to send them Favors or any other number of players. Do they not realize they are having to shed salary? They will not be getting players back in any trade for the guys they have on the chopping block.

Not really... tough to use unfair and indicate we should give up an asset when they are *** raping our roster and take an asset we have developed for 7 years and they get all the fruits. You can't silo off two transactions in this scenario completely.

This is business and this stuff happens in business all the time. Neither transaction in a vacuum is fair but the whole transaction is a giant net positive for them.

I think we talked with them and they want 1.50 on the dollar for crowder because ainge is a pirate. DL says well how about a couple seconds and we let Gordon save face. They say **** off... if Gordon and his agent really are so concerned with us they need to help us. If not they look even worse... we have found out how much brand means to Gordon so who knows.

Do you not realize they can do trades elsewhere?

Nothing gets done without Jazz paying more. Danny and Bartlestein already stole the biggest chip.

Jazz have no leverage, Boston has neither need nor urgency.

Haywood and Bartlestein's willingness doesn't change the equation.

It is the Jazz who have an urgent need and that puts Danny in the power position.

I think a future first will probably be enough to get Crowder. Most teams with cap space are bad and will want to keep their future picks. Jazz are one of the few who can part with one. We aren't tanking. I expect a top 10 protected pick going out for Crowder would be enough.

I get it... They can trade them to another team, but they aren't trading Smart and Crowder for another star player like DJ. Literally the only thing they can take back in a trade is a draft pick. It isn't unreasonable to think that Boston needs to give up additional assets for a team to take on the salary of one of these guys.

Man, I expected to wake up today to find out this S&T was a done deal. Oh well.

I'm not a cap expert, but if a team needs to be under the salary cap to make a trade with boston and provide any relief, I only see 6 or 7 teams that can provide it. I'm sure there are reasons it may not work for some which would reduce this list further. For example Brooklyn is one of the teams and I can't imagine they would have assets to give to boston. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/

Someone with some more know how might want to chime in.

Not to mention there is no incentive for the teams with the cap space to offer Boston s*** for Crowder, Smart or Bradley because they know that Boston has to shed salary. Lowball city.

If I can summarize the situation I would do it like this:

1. Boston is not going to gift us Crowder or Bradley or Smart. As long as there is market for them, they would get the best offer that's on the market.

2. There is a small advantage the Jazz provide to the Celtics as a potential suitor for Crowder/Bradley/Smart - they get to keep their full mid-level exception(if I'm not mistaken, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, please). This is a very small +, but if what we offer is close to what others offer Boston might be willing to do it.

3. If Boston wants to keep all of Bradley/Smart/Crowder, the Jazz are the only team that can enable that through sign and trade of Rozier+other stuff. The question is how much value is it worth it for Boston to keep them as opposed to getting an asset for one of them? Can we get 1 first? Or 2? Maybe a first and a second? I don't know, this is where DL has to earn his money and correctly gauge what the trio is worth to Boston. A possible trade would be Rozier+Jackson+BOS2018 first(or LAC 2019 first)?
