My 8-year-old son walked into the kitchen the other morning with a startling request.
"Yo, Mom and Dad, is it cool if I hitchhike to the Yukon?" he asked. "There's supposed to be a totally hard-core Insane Clown Posse concert at an abandoned uranium mine. I figure I can eat out of garbage cans on the way up, and if anyone gives me trouble, I'll just whip out this rusty .45 that I found by the railroad tracks."
At least that's what it felt like he was saying. What he really asked was:
"Can I go to the park by myself?"
