July 12 jazz game in vegas

Burke STILL CAN'T SHOOT

Ice Cold Trey
Trey Brick

Tale your choice. He's a wasted pick and is going to have the career of Earl Watson. He'll bounce around the league as a backup on decent teams, maybe an interim starter on a rebuilding squad.

Good Gawd...can't ANYONE on the Jazz put the ball in the hoop?
Thomas might be serviceable as a backup. I'd just cut Clark, Murphy, etc, and pick up the best unsigned players from any other team in the summer league. These players the Jazz have are truly bad.

Thomas is going to be a keeper, maybe next DMC. Exum will get better(energy\fitness) with time its a different pace when the season gets underway I see him coming of bench for Burke/Burks, great bursts of speed and good vision and finds his man on a dish..AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE ..OI OI OI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks like Exum has some elite skills, but I too am concerned about his loose handle. It's worse that he keeps it so high. I know he is really young, but I can't remember a player come into the NBA and improve their dribble by that much. I think NBA caliber point guards are going to have a field day against him unless he can protect the ball better.

He did have some flashes of brilliance though. I'm excited to see more of his play.

Exum will be fine, but is raw.
Gobert coming along, still has a ways to go
Hood had his moments, good AND bad. Too early to tell
Very disappointed by Burke. He's had a year in the NBA. Looked like a late round rookie in this game.
Thomas is a high energy backup

Everyone else: cut bait and bring in other prospects.

If there's any tangible skill that can be improved through practice and instruction, it's handles. I'm not worried about that in the least.

Well if that's the case, I can see Exum being a real force in this league. His ability to change speeds and his court vision are really special from the little I've seen of him.

It seems like nobody looks good in a first summer league game.
Nobody on any team looks good in the first game.

I agree. To elaborate on what I originally said, I think the hardest things to learn are awareness, IQ, etc. and Dante seems to have plenty.

It is clear Exum is special. Glad we ended up with him instead of Aaron Gordon.

I've watched 4-5 games. There are players who have looked VERY good.
And how to explain Burke? He hasn't looked good in ANY summer league games. I won't say "bust" because there weren't high expectations for the 9th pick in a weak draft. But DL sure blew it by drafting need. Many wanted Giannis and they were correct. He DOMINATED the game he played in.

I guess the good news is Utah won't need to reserve cap space to re-sign Trey to a big contract. MLE as a backup is going to be his level. If I were DL, I'd look to shop Trey at the deadline. For GM's that aren't sharp, it merely looks like we're clearing the way for our #5 pick. In reality, Trey's value is going to continue to decline each day he shows he can't shoot and can't finish.

We sittin here, he's 'posed to be the franchise player and we talkin 'bout Summer League. We talkin 'bout Summer League. Not a (real) game. Not a (real) game. Not a (real) game. We talkin 'bout Summer League. How silly is that?

Honestly, it's nice to see them in action. . . but Summer League is little more than a glorified (wait for it) practice. And right now, we talkin 'bout practice.

In context, I'm encouraged that Dante Exum looked pretty good and should get better working with Snyder and playing with Burks, Hayward and Favors. I fully expect him to be the starting PG by the end of the year. Think Trey will be great coming off the bench and Exum is more comfortable at the 1. His ceiling is incredibly high. More and more impressed by him each time we see him. Not giving up on Trey, but it sure seems like Dante is going to force his way into the starting lineup. IMO, Exum (1) and Burks (2) is better than Burke (1) and Exum (2).

Encouraged by Rudy Gobert. Started slow, but then picked up the pace and had a really solid game. Think he'll be a defensive force off the bench. Even if they bring Tomic over, I expect Gobert to get some serious burn. Love that kid. Steal of a crappy draft. Great pick at #27.

Rodney Hood looked about like I expected. He needs a lot if work, but should be a valuable shooter off the bench. Has to get better on defense though. He'll get better.

Malcolm Thomas should probably make the team again. Underwhelmed by both Erik Murphy and Ian Clark. Was hoping one of those two would show well, but maybe they don't belong on the end of a roster. Wouldn't mind seeing one of them end up in Idaho to get some quality playing time.

I'm even more convinced that I want Ante Tomic and Raul Neto to come over. I think the Jazz can be pretty decent with a good bench. Don't wait to bring them over. Just get them into the building and let the pieces fall where they may.

NBA teams need depth you know. I think Trey could be a pretty good backup.

Lmfaoooo!

Kay guys, Burke did play good last year. I'm sure he's coasting through summer league. He doesn't have much to prove at this point.

He did? He has nothing to prove? Good gawd...he needs to prove he's a quality PG.
Guess some have such low expectations because we've seen the likes of senior citizens Tinsley and Watson since Deron left.
Burke couldn't shoot in summer league last year and couldn't get to the rim. OK, no big deal; he was just a rookie.
Trey shot 38%/33% all of last season. Averaged 1.6 FT's per game. Ok, no big deal; rookie PG's always struggle.

Trey shoots 4-12, including 1-5 on his 3-PT FG's tonight. When are we going to acknowledge Trey is just not a good shooter? This guy has Earl Watson written all over him. Watson was a 2nd-tier starter for several years, but mainly a career backup.

I know, I know, Trey is just adjusting to playing with Dante. He's going to shoot 45%/40% once the season begins and hit at least TWO game winners, at which point we'll be saying that he's so clutch, the Jazz should just sign him to a lifetime contract.

My worthless way to premature thoughts on a game that really doesn't matter:

1) In general this is one of the best summer league games I've ever seen. Doesn't mean it was great by any stretch, but for a summer league game it was much better than most I've seen.

2) Exum looks like the real deal. He wasn't perfect by any stretch, and yeah, there was the competition, but he really could have had 5 or so more assists with any competent players next to him. I didn't know his passing was that good, and his first step is as advertised. His shooting needs work, but I honestly think that will come in time. His shot doesn't look broken.

3) Burke was an absolute brick machine. I didn't see his final numbers but he had to have shot in the 30% range or lower.

4) Rudy looked pretty good, but he needs to work on his foul shooting badly. Otherwise it's hack a Frenchie out there. Still, I like what I saw from him generally out there.

5) Hood showed some good and bad moments, but looks like he could be a contribute this season.

6) Both Clark and Murphy looked pretty worthless out there. For a guy that's supposed to be a shooter Murphy sucked it up tonight.

7) The other white guy looked like a good enough energy guy. Thomas had his moments there too, and probably has way more upside.

That's about it. Of course it's just one meaningless summer league game.
