What's new

July 12 jazz game in vegas

if a guard has bad handles, then he is not a PG.

Unless that guard has great vision, passing and playmaking ability. He should be on the ball at point unless the opposing guard is pressuring the ball. In any situation where they are pushing the ball in transition, you definitely want the ball in his hands.

I did not think this kid had bad handles. In fact, I thought they were very good. A little loose at times but something he could clearly work out imo.

Yeah this.

Dude's like a chemistry possessor with the ball, you definitely want the ball in his hands as much as you possibly can. Imagine a mix between Rubio and Derick Rose, to me that's his ceiling right now and he has a high floor already too.

His handles are loose and he palms/carries the ball alot. Luckily refs dont call that infraction much though

He mishandled a few times but he recovered and didn't turn it over. When he was attacking he had no problem with his dribble. He used his hesitation dribble to blow by defenders.

Based on what I saw... He's absolutely a point guard. I was worried about this because if he is a lightning quick tall PG he can be special... As a two he's got average size. He looks to set his teammates up off his drives. He looked really good last night... I'm not going to pick him apart for a couple mishandles on his dribble.

He can create for sure... That was a good takeaway though about his floor. I think at worst he's a tall Leandro Barbosa.

Confused

We talkin 'bout Summer League. How silly is that?
.....
I'm encouraged that Dante Exum looked pretty good and should get better
......
Encouraged by Rudy Gobert.

I'm confused, is it silly to be encouraged or discouraged by summer league play?

yeah i know. and gee whiz he only finished 3rd in all rookies.
If you are trying to say it was a horrible draft last year, then i agree.

Alex len, nerlens noel, otto porter, anthony bennett, shabazz muhammed, georgi deng, cj mccollum, giannis, schroeder, larkin..... lots of injuries, lots of "busts" and guys that started getting playing time way late (deng).

Even oladipo and mcw were not that good despite getting lots of minutes and lots of touches. (Mcw only looked good because his team played so fast that he had empty stats)

A few observations, premature speculations, and questions by mellow .....

Dante is the real deal. He has got "it". He plays hard, makes things happen, and smiles while playing. The game changes around him.

Trey Burke doesn't have "it". He will have a role on the team and in the league if he (or his parents) doesn't lose his mind over Exim coming in.

The thought of Exum and Alec burk playing together has me excited.

I think I am less excited about Malcolm Thomas than others. He is 26 (just like Elijah Milsap) competing against younger guys, he should look better.

Did anyone get to hear all of Lindsey's interview? The tv was in but the volume was down.

Coach Q allowing kjzz to tape him at practice was incredible.

I liked coached Jones last season, he impressed again yesterday. He engages the players very noticeably, that is good for young guys.

Good for favors for hanging out with the team in Vegas.

What did randy Rigby say?

Me too.

But you would really need a very good shooting SF and probably a stretch 4 who can shoot 3's as well to give room for Exum and Burks to operate and penetrate. We do have Hayward who can hopefully improve his 3pt shooting this season and oh wait a minute - we also have Novak right?!?! I wonder if that's by design?!?!

Exum's best quality is his personality. He sounds confident and well spoken. Too many athletes sound like a bunch dumb azzes.

"@NateDuncanNBA: One aspect of summer league that might actually be harder than regular season NBA basketball is the amount of ball pressure on point guards"

I'm more excited to see Exum at PG, Hayward at SG. That is a HUGE backcourt, great passing, above average defense, headaches for opposing teams.
