What's new

July 14 SL Exum vs Parker 8:30 MT

burke will dictate the tempo of the game, make the offense move, and not turn the ball over. and he will give you 15/7 every night.
So when you say dictate the tempo do you mean slowly down so that he doesn't look bad but everyone else looks worse?

That's what seemed to have happened last season.

if he keeps shooting like this he will be an allstar, and he will be the ROY. i would be pleasantly surprised if he can have 15 nights like last night. i would say he won't.

It depends on how many minutes he gets - and part of that depends on his defense. If he plays suitable defense he'll get a decent amount of playing time. And the fact Williams is gone helps.

And he doesn't have to score 29 a game to help Hayward - all he needs to do is be consistent (yes - I saw Vegas game 1). If he helps spread the floor and give us some offense Hayward will be more effective than he was last year.

I like his 5 assists - that was a great sign also.

Can we just give Hayward the benefit of the doubt that he lives up to his contract and the team excels with him and Hood (and the other wings)?

Get mad when Hayward sucks, or when Hayward's contract prevents us from signing that awesome FA who wants to come to Utah (lol).

As someone who was very vocal about the contract sitch, this is where my head is regarding Hayward at this point. He's ours. Let's hope for the best and worry later if it causes issues. For now, let's just enjoy thinking about what could be if Hayward does take a step forward.

With Burke's efficiency, he'll have to use way too many possessions to get those numbers.

Laughable bro, are you being serious?

He averaged 13/6 his rookie year, yeah no way he improves.

15/7 up from 13/6 seems very easy for Burke to get.

I just went to a gas station down the block to get some white grape dutchmasters, and there's a 14 or 15 year old Indian kid thats gotta be 6'4" sitting at the register watching a replay of the Jazz and Bucks. So I say to him "Rodney Hood's lookin good huh?" he laughed and is like "yo, that dude is nice"

(This happened in New York)

Even before SL started, I've said Hood will have a better career than Hayward.

1) there's really no way of knowing, so whether you are correct or not, it's stupid to be predicting it. You're just throwing **** up against a wall and hoping something sticks.

15/7 means burke has gotten better by a little. it's a natural progression for most decent point guard in the nba. i'm not asking burke to be a star. all i want him to be our mike conley and we beef up all other positions.

and we have no alternative. trey is our point for at least next couple of years. you can't ask an 18 year old kid to run a point. at least not yet.

Agree. Even with Exum's instincts, it will take a year at the very least before he's ready to be a starting PG. Best case scenario is Burke averages in the 42%/35% range and keeps his A/TO ratio high. Then we see what kind of trade value he has. Maybe Trey + our late lottery pick gets a #5 pick next year and we draft a great PF (if Kanter doesn't improve enough this year).

You're thoughts on Burke are way off. He played well and within the offense, and did what you want your pg to do, he made his teammates better and found easy opportunities for them. Yes, he went 0-6, but remember, In the first game Hood went 1-9 or something like that.

He was reliable on defense, and he did great at not bogging down the offense by not doing anything with the ball and played with a good pace.

How many jumpers did Trey take yesterday? He took 4 lay ups which people say he doesn't get to the cup enough and he did so without any many floor spacers.

No doubt Trey has to shoot the ball better and finish at the rim better, but he looked like a true PG which is how he'll fully maximize his potential in this league.

he took prayer layups, he was looking to be bailed out by the refs.

This is summer league the spacing will be poor so the lane will be jammed. With that Trey will need to get stronger to be able to absorb contact and make those lay ups. I think people forget he's a 2nd year pro with correctable holes in his game.

Are they Hindu-Indians or American-Indians?

I think the floor has been pretty well spaced. Hood does a good job in that department

He is the best player at the 3 on the team. Hood might be a better jump shooter, and that's about it at this point.

What else do you want out of your SHOOTING guard? You don't get points from dribbling or getting wet willies.

The defense and driving will come. But you just can't substitute shooting. Just ask San Antonio. And Hayward ain't no shooter. He's a brick layer.

I'll take a devastating shooter over Hayward's "intangibles" (whatever the **** those are)

One off year. Please tell Coach K. Hayward should not have been invited to the national camp because he's one of the worst players in the league. Seriously, why so much hatred for a player? It's actually pretty amusing. You've become like fromRussia or KOCBegone, fixated on one person.

Yep.

We should all have the worst expectations for hood while creating the best expectations for Hayward.

I wish some of you could show some consistency here other then everything Hayward does is awesome.

Even Locke talked about a few weeks ago that generally players are who they are after 4 years. He made the case for not offering Hayward the max before free agency even began.

Where have I said I didn't want Hood to succeed? Of course I want him to be good, the better he is, the better the Jazz will be.

There's also this thing called being realistic. I'm not going to expect a rookie to be better than somebody who just put up 16/5/5 in the NBA. Hell, I don't think there's anybody out there who thinks everything Hayward does is awesome…I think you're just making these people up so that you can rant about something.

You like to talk about facts, lets find these people who think Hayward was worth the contract. Was there even one on this board? If there was, they were certainly the minority.
