What's new

Justin Zanik and David Morway are joining the Utah Jazz as top front office executives under DL

What do assistant GM's even do? Just more people for DL to say "This guy really liked this player so we drafted him" about?

I'm guessing the job of GM is a bit more complicated than most fans realize. Nothing wrong with a couple more brains and 4 more eyes looking at all the different angles in the decision making process. DL makes mistakes just like every other GM in this league. It's good to have someone humble enough to not only consider, but actively seek out multiple opinions on overall direction as well as individual moves.

If DL proves he is that good he will probably get hired away. So another reason for hire is succession plan.

Lindsey always spoke well of Zanik, glad to have him back. Like Cappy said it never hurts to have another talented mind on your side.

I'd imagine you could have more people running the phones, getting feelers on where we would be as far as leverage in deals. Someone could talk with someone else but it could look like DL still plays his cards on the vest because they could assume the other assistant to the GM may be speaking for them self and not Dennis.

Just a thought. Not saying that's how it is.

Exactly This is important in business

In 2021/2022 so wish we still be alive by then.

IMAGINE DL want to draft him but Corbin refused. Ehhhhhhh
Link? Jazz needed a PG. The choice would have been between Burke and McCollum. Gobert was always the choice with Utah's 2nd pick. And didn't DL also trade up for Neto in that same draft?

As for Zanik and Morway, I think the workload has probably gotten a lot bigger. Jazz have some key FA's coming up, there is the G League and 2-way contracts to manage. Plus, I think other GM's may not want to deal with DL anymore - not after the way he has robbed Denver ;).

It speaks highly of Starks and the Jazz board that they approved bringing in TWO extra staff. After this off-season, with Lindsey burning the phones to get a trade done with the 2016 cap space, then going through the dog and pony show with Hayward, flying to the EC immediately thereafter to meet with an agent (either re: Porter or Gallinari) and moving on to signing Thabo, Jerebko, Udoh and O'Neale. DAMN...that's quite the workload. DL must have been working 24/7 for a couple of months. Send him off for a nice rest in the Bahamas for 4 weeks while the new hires hold down the fort.

Also thinking a promotion could be in the works for DL. Whenever a GM opening comes up, you have to think teams are trying to poach him away. Jazz need to give him a new title and large increase in pay.

All your GMs are belong to us!

We should hire Griffin and Hinkie, too... if we cannot get the players, get all the GMs in the league!

Now we have KOC, former GM, as a consultant. Justin Zanick, former interim GM of the Bucks and David Morway, former Pacers GM as high role FO executives under DL.

Yaassss. This is a great idea. Sign all the smart GM's and basketball minds that we can. There will be more dumbells similar to Gar Forman, John Paxson, Phil Jackson and Vivek Ranadive running teams all around the NBA... We win.
