Kanter/Favors Pick & Roll D

Twin Towers

Well-Known Member
Does anyone else remember the pick and roll D with Kanter and Favors last year?
They both showed very hard and waited to leave once the point guard recovered. It was like a double team almost every time and stifled the play last year.

This year they are not at all. They both are purposely sagging back. They are not even trying to jump out.

Makes me wonder are they being lazy or is Corbin telling them to do this??? There D looked better last year showing hard rather than playing Boozer defense in no mans land.

If your one of those fans that only watches the ball when you watch the game and don't pay attention to how the play develops than don't answer cause your opinion is worthless :)

Or is the real problem here that if they suck, your nick and avatar will be worthless?

If that is the case, don't worry and root for Embiid. He looks like he can make any other long player into Twin Towers when playing alongside.

To defend the Pick and Roll in a successfull way you need more than a big man. In addititon to the big there is usually a perimeter defender to i wouldn't focus only at the big the jazz have generally a lack of perimeter defender. Gordon is a great help-defender but not more.

Have fun with a Favors and Embiid lineup especially at the offensive end they would play *** on *** next to each other because they can not shoot...This draftclass is so overhyped. The only sure things are Parker and Wiggins.

Maybe some metrics found out that there's few passes leading to a direct assist/basket, the shielded 3 off the dribble is a low% shot with a lot of guys and taking away the lane is more beneficial as it doesn't put your defense in a situation where you need another help rotation coming over opening up corners and stuff.
But I don't know if Corbin believes in metrics and neither do I know if my hypothesis is correct. Just could be.

Correct - when people rag on Kanter/Favors on PNR defense they ignore the fact that another defensive player is engaged in the play. Jazz do absolutely NOTHING well as a team defensively. Almost every positive is based on individual achievement

True that is pretty hard to guard both players on the play and it looks way worse when the point blows by and gets the layup because of lack of help
