Kanter traded to OKC

Kanter didn't have a lot of value. He can't pass and he can't defend the rim. No one falls in love with players like that.

I'm with you all though. I am outraged Dennis Lindsay didn't force, or at least trick, some doofus GM into committing career suicide by giving up a bunch of stuff fans can still hang their hopes on for FORMER NUMBER THREE PICK Enes Kanter.

At first I didn't like the trade. But as the details have come in, I am more pleased. Grant Jerrett and Tibor Pleiss for a head case who was not in the long term plans. Not bad.

I was skeptic of Kanter from before they draft. Drafting him was a mistake and a missed opportunity. Keeping him would be the same.

I don't wish him ill, but I don't think he will succeed. I feel bad for OKC fans.

And I was just about to start a Rudy blocks Enes watch thread...

Go ahead and start it frank. I was wondering when Rudy has his 1st double digit block game. This one might be it considering how much Enes gets blocked after offensive rebounds. Gonna be fun to watch the two starting spot contenders battling.

We are close to something here guys. We can offer a contract to Wesley Matthews? Butler? To plug into that SG role. Possibly get a higher draft pick now and have a nice prospect. We now have more assets that we can trade for something too (maybe to get a higher pick in the draft, Russell anyone?).

dude, where is burks?

I like your snarkasm and I like Martin Starr.

My thunder friend hates the trade--is steamed they gave up a first round pick for half a year of Kanter. Interesting perspective.

He'd be even more pissed when he realizes they are planning on signing him on a long term deal in the summer...

There are also people who see the trade as long as lasting this season, there are some who would love to sign him and there are OKC tweets iirc that OKC had the intentions of signing him while trading for him.

he'll stay there after this year. Who wouldn't want to play with KD and westbrook. They'll cover a multitude of Kanter's sins. Although i hope he likes the new brutally honest KD getting on his case

1. Why would you keep him and not offer the QO, when you can trade him and actually get assets? If we were going to keep him we just had to make the QO...
2. Why shouldn't we have acquired Novak when we had cap space to use and we got a second rounder out of it and were able to get rid off him in this deal?
1. Not sure I understand. My point is that moving Kanter doesn't create any cap space for the Jazz, since the Jazz could always have just let Kanter walk or sign elsewhere (which includes rescinding the QO before Kanter accepts it).

2. That 2nd rounder (plus a mostly useless Novak) cost the Jazz nearly $4mm in 2015/16 cap space and Diante. That's a hefty price for a 2nd round pick. It was a bad trade.

All I'm trying to point out is that the Jazz only gain cap space by dumping Novak, and that Novak should never have been acquired in the first place. As such, I see no reason to be excited about this extra space. The Jazz now get to choose between trying to get an NBA player in free agency OR bringing over Tomic/Pleiss. A 2018 late-1st and a couple 2nds are pretty meh.

Without considering what DL might have been able to get for Kanter had he been a little more proactive (this is his first in-season trade IIRC), this trade grades out at a C AT BEST for the Jazz. However, I can;t help but think that DL could have got at least a little bit more had he acted a bit sooner.

I think there's something to be said for the psychology of the FO blessing this move. If some random poster had made a trade thread with this proposal, everyone would have ripped him/her a new *******.
