Kanter watch

Wait you think he will be more valuable as a 3rd/4th option with OKC starters than he was here as a 2nd/3rd option with the starters. As far as the bench goes he was the man in Utah. It was basically him and Burke. Our bench is a bunch of D-leaguers. Wasn't his season high like 32pts this year?(with Rudy getting big minutes) Do you honestly think he will have the opportunity to put up those numbers in OKC?

Also he wasn't really competing with Rudy. Rudy complemented Kanter really well. Rudy cleaned up after Kanter and Kanter is a better scorer. He was competing against himself and the system. Minutes wise he was competing with Booker. If he had bought into the system he could have eaten all of Bookers minutes. Unfortunately he was too concerned with his own numbers and too stubborn to realize that if he passed the ball teams would stop double teaming him. His turnovers would come down his fg% would go up and he would still put up the same number of points. If he takes that me first attitude to OKC he is going to spend a lot of time on the pine.

The truth is Kanter was much more valuable to Utah than he will ever be to OKC. Kanter bit the hand that fed him.
Of course Rudy complemented him. Maybe more than anyone else can. I meant their competition for the starting center position. Not much of it maybe since Utah plays a lot better with Rudy in so many ways, but Rudy's mentality development also has some important milestones like getting sent to D League and trying to make his impact when he comes. Competition drove him to grow faster too.

Enes needs to grow a lot mentally. It includes BBIQ. He hasn't shown major progress, but only sparks of it in some games. It is better than nothing. He won't stay long and be passed at if he plays like that there too, a no brainer, but there is a good possibility that he can comprehend himself as a 3rd 4th opt to start with and learn how to play team ball.

The reason I think he cam be better there is he is an emotional guy and he always played for the team that drafted him at a most valuable #3 pick and had high expectations of him. This is always a matter of presurre for a guy like him who always thought his next move a lot and got left behind the game pace mentally. I just believe in his relaxed mode getting out of this drafted kid situation helping his game. Of course we need time to see if it will be that way. He is a good kid. I hope he does well.

I don't think he is a bad guy.

Kanter isn't a true center. He isn't going to start as center for any team that has one. He just doesn't have the physical tools to be a good starting center. He can play it in a pinch or off the bench but he's never going to be a great center. Kanter is a PF that can't play pick and roll D(doesn't play it particularly well offensively either). If he wants to start I think he has to address that so he can start as a 4. Favors plays the pick and roll so he started.

I disagree completely about physical tools and that he should work on being a PF over a center. Compare his wingspan/height to Jusuf Nurkic. Jusuf Nurkic is actually ranked higher in DRPM than Gobert and is ranked 6th in the NBA in rim protection on nyloncalculus (ranked higher than Omer Asik, Larry Sanders, Tim Duncan, and a bunch of others). Enes Kanter also measured much faster and able to jump much higher. However this is most likely due to Jusuf Nurkic weighing a good 20 lbs more than Kanter combine time. The only problem with Jusuf Nurkic is that he fouls at an insane rate.

The only thing that may prevent Kanter from ever playing good defense is BBIQ.

I think Kanter should gain weight and play brutal basketball. His FTA per 36 and rebounds went down almost every year. He needs to get back to that and become a brute under the rim. Not lose weight and take a bunch of 3's pretending to be a PF. Only mid range jumper he should work on is keeping his FT% > 70%.

A PF doesn't need to shoot 3's. A stretch 4 shoots 3's. Favors is is a 4. He is both big and doesn't shoot 3's.

Favors reach is also longer than Kanter. Honestly even when Kanter played with Favors, Favors took care of the center responsibilities. (because Kanter isn't very good at it)

I don't care what they list him as Kanter doesn't play center.

That's partly why things went so well last night imo. Gobert allowed Favors to play his natural position.

Couldn't agree more. His game had more character in his rookie year. And the worst part is he could do anything he can do now in his rookie status. Too bad Ty didn't allow him jack****.

I don't get how favors having a longer reach than Kanter means that Kanter can't play center? You said he doesn't have the physical tools but there are people with the same physical tools of Enes Kanter (athleticism/wingspan/height) that play great defense. What Kanter played in the past or will even play in the future is irrelevant to that statement.

The statement about Favors was in response to your characterization of PF's. "He needs to get back to that and become a brute under the rim. Not lose weight and take a bunch of 3's pretending to be a PF.". Another Example would be Karl Malone. He did not shoot threes and he was more brutal than Kanter ever will be.

Kanter playing the 4 with a true center behind him is better than Kanter as a center. The only caveat is he has to get better with the pick and roll on both sides of the ball.

Edit: let's put it this way. I think Kanter can be a much better player than Adams but Adams will probably always be a better center.

Since some negative Enes Kanter from other message boards were shared earlier I will post some positive ones.

"A lot of people were upset that OKC didn't trade for Brook Lopez but, I think that Enes Kanter might end up being a better player sooner than later."

"...I'm more encouraged by the pick and roll sets we saw with Russ and Kanter."

"Kanter played great D on big al in the second half"

"The lineup of Westbrook, DJ, KD,Ibaka, kanter is going to be fun to watch."

"he absolutely LOCKED DOWN Big Al in the second half."

"I don't know why people like to **** on enes kanter for his defense. He played superb defense on Big Al"

"S/O to Kanter's defense at the end. Big Al was giving him all the moves and he bit on none"

"Yeah, that was a pleasant surprise."

"Holy **** KANTER with CLUTCH DEFENSE so far late in the game."

"man that pick and roll with Kanter."

"Great D Kanter!"

"Kanter seems to be pretty solid at screen setting"

Thanks for sharing. Where did you get these?

Kanter did play solid D, but it wasn't great. Al just couldn't buy a shot; they were in and out. But I'll give credit to Enes; he didn't bite on Al's pump fakes and just tried to stay in front. The only thing I'll fault him at is he let Jefferson establish position. There was no battle to keep him off his spots. And Kanter rebounded the heck out of the ball like he always does.

More I thought about, the more I realize it was a fair trade. OKC got a great 1 1/2 year rental. But with Adams and McGary as young, promising (and CHEAP) bigs to go along with Ibaka, OKC would be crazy to offer Enes $15M to stay. And Kanter isn't going to accept much less. OKC will extend a QO, Kanter will sign it so he can wait for the 2016 FA period to get a big deal, and the Thunder will have one more year to contend with Durant before he makes a big decision to stay or leave. Collison is expendable now and they'd look to deal his contract this summer - if Kanter signs the QO and remains. Still, things are going to get crowded when Adams returns, unless OKC wants to **** off McGary and have him eat pine. But they needed to replace Adams to give them a shot at the playoffs (or so they thought). It's almost certain with the deadline moves that OKC rises and Phoenix falls.

Kanter has 3 assists right now against Nuggets and you guys wouldn't believe your eyes if you saw that fastbreak assist fullcourt. I always knew he could pass man. Always.

He was getting better every single year. Racking up more assists and less TO per 36 every single year. Except for this year. He is playing with guards who shoot 21% during 10 game stretches and is on contract year.

Man Enes Kanter be getting some hate. Found a post on the OKC forum by a guy who only has one post so far

"Seriously guys don't get too carried away with a good performance from Kanter, he has a long history of impressive but ultimately meaningless points and rebounding totals in soft situations and unimportant games. Once KD comes back and Kanter doesn't get the touches and shot attempts and you see what his D is like in playoff type games in limited minutes you'll find out.
Westbrook could make my grandma look good, he's seriously an animal."

Some dude made an account just to trash Kanter? Or at the very least his first post?

I bet that is someone from this forum

"It’s good to see him picks things up quickly. Enes brings an IQ to the game. He has soft hands around the basket and is a good rebounder."

I am honestly shocked at how well Kanter is playing. Helps having 3 or 4 guys playing with you you cant double off of.

Yeah I saw that too. It's gonna happen man you can't stop that. He has a point actually. Kanter did put up empty stats every now and then. But he never -repeat- NEVER played that enthusiastic, freely and hard for the Jazz before.
