Why do we say someone is "taking notes" in a class? How about "taking five?" Seriously, someone is hung up over the way a verb is used? Sorry to take your time with this response.
I was kidding. Dry humor doesn't go over well on this site. Hung up? Sorry to to take your time? Anyone whose time is that valuable isn't perusing this forum. This is a forum, correct? Isn't the point to discuss topics and share differing opinions? A good attempt, but a "discussion" requires two people. Taking notes or taking five, does not. Taking it suggests that someone is doing something unpleasant rather than willingly participating. Is that how it is typically referenced - "taking discussions"? I find it interesting that everyone responded as if "taking discussions" was par for the course. Not a judgment, just a comment. If you said this in any other context, people would likely stare blankly at you.
