What's new

Kessler's girlfriend is the new Miss America

Yes, we make all our personnel decisions based on who they screw. That means that during the Malone years we were all enamored with 14 year olds. Can't trade that guy, he likes'em young!

Well he did play in Utah so that story checks out. Anyway if it's good enough for Prince Andrew and President Trump it's good enough for Jazz nation!!

I've always liked that line in Moneyball where the scout has doubts on a player cause his girlfriend is ugly. Must have low confidence. Always makes me chuckle.

Locke said this morning that she's been his GF since Auburn days and that he did indeed take separate transportation (rather than getting on the team bus) after the game in order to rush over to see her win.

They seem to have been together for a long time and if they stick together going forward Kessler may be setting himself for a heartbreak later in life. His dad and uncle were successful basketball bigs. But this Miss America is only 5'7". LeBron's wife was also 5'7" and his kids are tall but not tall enough. When you are 6'8" and have athletic genes from your NBA father it is much, much easier to also make it in the NBA/WNBA. Kessler needs to look at 6'2'' volleyball players.

WTF?

Hopefully you are just trying to be funny.

No, it's a real issue: Shaq, Wade, LeBron and many, many more of the ex-NBA players were really hoping that their kids would make it in the NBA. And their sons grew up playing basketball from the early years and trying to be just like dad. Most of them fall because they are simply too short and the competition is fierce when you are 6'2".

It may seem like a such a non-factor when the NBA players are in their 20s but when they are in their 40s and see their kids' dreams getting crushed... I bet they feel different.

Curry's father, former NBA guard Dell Curry, is 6-foot-5. Dell pointed out his son's height during a recent episode of their Audible podcast, "Heat Check with Stephen and Dell Curry." "You were always the smallest, shortest, skinniest kid on all your teams, from 6 years old, 6th grade and all the way up, and I (attribute) that to your mother," Dell said in the episode.

Steph's mother, Dell's ex-wife, is 5-foot-3. Curry's parents first met at Virginia Tech, where Dell played basketball and Sonya played volleyball...

Despite the three inches Dell had on Steph, the younger Curry had the superior basketball career by a wide margin. However, Steph's height did pose some barriers early on. At Charlotte Christian High School in North Carolina, Steph was named all-conference and all-state and led his team to three conference titles and three state playoff appearances. But he had a hard time getting a scholarship for basketball because of his height. Steph wanted to play at Virginia Tech like his father but was only offered a walk-on spot, partially due to his slender 160-pound frame at the time.

...Curry has said his size disadvantage is what motivated him to put in extra work to become a stronger player. "The physicality deficiencies I had early, and, you know, there was always just an encouragement to just work, figure it out, build confidence as you go," Steph told Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett during a November 2023 edition of their "Smartless" podcast.

Unfortunately, there are very few short young basketball players who have Curry's talent and dedication to overcome their physical limitations. Almost all of them fall short.

You don't select your breeding partner based on NBA potential? I only looked at black women 6'8" and up. Lol.
The average straight guy probably chooses his breeding partner from about 10 possible realistic candidates. And, statistically, he is pretty happy with his choice afterwards. A guy like Kessler can have a selection pool of several hundreds, and he will be equally happy with many dozens of them. It makes perfect sense to select a tall woman and set up his kids for the best future (it is very, very common for the kids of the NBA players to also play basketball from a very young age and to have very high expectations).
