What's new

Kevin O'Connor a genius? You decide.

So, I'm looking at the basketball news and it reads that Deron Williams might delay free agency by one year. Chris Paul has all ready agreed to delay one year. If Dwight Howard decides to play out one more year then all 3 guys could be available summer after this. But, assuming we aren't in the market for a big, that's still 2 huge free agent point guards looking to test the market.

The thing is, the Jazz will probably be looking for a PG and be sitting on a TON of cap space summer after this. The only contracts we'll have on contract will be:

Derrick Favors
Enes Kanter
Gordon Hayward
Alec Burks

And presumably
2012 1st pick
2012 1st pick (via GS)
2013 1st

About 21 mil. Say a 57mil salary cap. Of course there are holds to deal with, but, no matter how you slice it, the Jazz are probably going to be at the right place and the right time to try and woo a top free agent PG to come to Utah.

Utah doesn't like stars that demand better out of their team and management, so none of those guys will ever be a Jazzman.

KOC has decided that I am a genius.

But that's old news... I know a lot of folks call for his head around here, but even the moves that left me thinking he'd made a big blunder have come out pretty sweet.

I don't think Hayward's any All-Star, but he's at least as good as advertised.
The D-Will trade? Looking better all the time.
Big Al AND cap space? Can't complain.
Earl Watson? Tinsley? Howard? Need I say more?

Deron returning to SLC...ummm, yeah, that will happen.
CP3...I'll bet you'll get 1M:1 odds in Vegas on that one.

KOC is a genius if he can trade CJ and Howard at the deadline for late 1sts, then swing a trade with the Memo TPE and one of those picks for a starting wing or PG.

I keep saying, I don't want a superstar point guard. If we get a superstar, he needs to be a 2,4,or 5. the 3 gets ignored in the Jazz system, and if I want a star, I don't want it to be a little guy who is too short and is likely to get injured because of his small stature. Sure, Deron was tall for a 1, but he also had a chronic twisted ankle, and the wrist -yikes-. Paul has been wracked with injures too. Give me a solid playmaker at the 1 and give me stars at the other positions.

I won't call him a genius this year until we get a damn wing that can shoot. I won't miss Harris, Howard, nor CJ. I would wish CJ the best of luck though.

And then there's Stockton

And then there's Stockton

This. Stock was a superstar play maker, an all-star, with the records and all of that. But he didn't fit the diva superstar mold we have now. He was blue collar. He took pay cuts to help the team, had no agent, and played for the same team his entire career even though he could have made more money elsewhere and maybe grabbed a ring. That's loyalty. There will never be another like him, unfortunately.

Think we would be looking at 2nd round picks for those two. I would be fine with that though.
