I know when the trade between GSW and Utah happened, you questioned why Golden State included the 2017 draft pick instead of 2016, but I think that was a smart move because it would allow them to trade the 2015 pick next summer. Do you think that might be the reasoning?

This is true, but I'm told the Jazz specifically asked for 2017. Not sure what they're projecting for Golden State in 2016-17.

Does our FO think GSw will return to their crappy ways that year. Do we have our eyes set on one of these lads https://prospect-central.blogspot.com/2013/06/2017-nba-mock-draft-lottery.html#.UiEG_Mu9KK0 ?

Or ido we just think it looks to be a strong draft class through and through?

Could be because we are going to have a holy crap load of young guys on our roster and don't feel the need to further increase that # until we find out what we have in this batch of young guys. That's just my guess though.

Interesting. Could it have something to do with the timing of the current rosters contracts

PKM has said that the 2017 class is supposed to be a good one.

Let them grow hair on their nut sacks before we start projecting on them as potential NBA players.

I think those are all part of the reasoning. Young roster - Jazz need to find out what they have, financial considerations - who are they going to keep, GS sucking- I will be shocked to see GS still being in the mix in 2017. and 2017 class is projected as a very good class.

Bogut (injured/blindness) curry (ankle) ai (old, no jump shot) should make for an interesting pick in 2017.

Hey guys. I'm sure there's more than one reason, just like how most non-idiot adults make their important decisions. Just a hunch, though.

Yes, there's that angle as well. I don't think it has anything to do with projecting GS' record in 2017. There is no way to anticipate roster changes. Lindsey has shown he's very tuned into drafting and evaluating talent. The sheer number of players Utah brought in...the renewed focus on international talent. I have no doubt he's aware of, or has heard about, the anticipation of the 2017 draft class. Kudos to him for getting an additional asset. It never hurts to have more assets, especially if he can see leading up to that draft that Utah is going to have to lose one of the starters because of financial constraints. Even if Favors, Hayward, Kanter, etc. can be had at a discount right now, their next contracts could be prohibitively expensive. Or, perhaps that would be the case with Burke - a decent PG about to come off his rookie contract. Might be better to trade him and draft another PG.

2017 is the year of the next lockout. Favors and G w/ maybe 1 year on the books and Burke and Gobert as RFA. They're setting themselves up to add "flexibility" to adapt to the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Odds are you can't predict a draft class 4 years in advance. But you can predict CBA negotiations and roster spot openings.
