2017 is the year of the next lockout. Favors and G w/ maybe 1 year on the books and Burke and Gobert as RFA. They're setting themselves up to add "flexibility" to adapt to the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Odds are you can't predict a draft class 4 years in advance. But you can predict CBA negotiations and roster spot openings.

That makes more sense to me. The last lockout, they were ready to roll when it officially kicked in. I'm sure the projections added to it as well. Should be interesting if it ever was revealed.

A slightly different way Dennis may be thinking about this: Out year picks give Dennis more optionality/ flexibility -- i.e., time to decide what to do with the asset (as part of a trade in 2013/14/15/16?).
