Keyonte George Hype & Appreciation Thread

He's not quite there yet, but he's getting close te being the best George in the league.

ugh. those freaking shooting percentages. if he could get to 45 and 38 or so, he'd be damn good.

Dude, Keyonte is consistently one of the worst defensive players in the league both by advanced metrics and the eye test. That is the main knock on him, and not his offensive capabilities.

You can say a lot about PG but he at least defends.

His February splits are also looking quite nice:

45.0 / 37.8 / 75.6

Small sample size, but he looks real comfortable right now playing alongside Collier.
Do you even watch the games? Keyonte posted these nice looking splits in February AFTER he was moved to the bench so that he does not share the court with Collier.

He's 45 and 37.8 over his last 10. I think there are reasons to believe that his efficiency will improve if he isn't the lead playmaker so often.

Plus he is a great foul merchant which helps his overall efficiency as well

he shares a lot of court time with Collier in spite of not starting together. throughout games, but in particular they've been finishing close games together regularly since Key went to the bench. if you don't think they spend a lot of time on the court together, it honestly makes me wonder if you watch games. "well they don't start together so they rarely play together" that's exactly what somebody who doesn't watch would think.

Fair point. No, I do not watch the games - I have better things to do than watch a team lose 60 times in a season. I'll revise my comment to "he looks comfortable coming off the bench."

Happy now?

Since Collier became starter:

Key w/Collier:

MIN - 278
USG - 28
TS% - 57.8
PTS/75 - 25.3
AST/75 - 4.8
TOV/75 - 2.2

Key w/o Collier:

MIN - 290
USG - 21
TS% - 55.5
PTS/75 - 17.5
AST/75 - 9.7
TOV/75 - 2.5

What we're seeing is Key play great in both roles. He needs to step it up on defense to become a starting level player, but right now he's a very good 6th man as a lead scorer or distributor.

Kind of a fun chart to look at. Here are some career trajectories of players that I think Key can turn into on the high end (Murray and Garland) and some players that I think we can expect in a more median outcome (Monk and Simons). Though famously, if Key is Mitchell who even is he????

Agreed, and the 6th man role is perfect for him. He can be both the backup 2 along side Collier and his backup at pg. it’s not a coincidence he’s playing his best stretch of basketball in his young career.

I think Garland is his best track with a decent likelihood.

DG:
6'1", 192 lbs

KG:
6'4", 185 lbs

So Keyonte has a few inches on him, but is slighter.

Keyonte out-stat-ed him in their comparative rookie seasons in fewer minutes. Garland doesn't really seem to do anything on the court that seems out of reach of Keyonte if his D continues to steadily improve, especially given his extra length.

I think when the team is more fully formed with good defenders in the role players positions, Keyonte's defense will be less of an issue. I also think he's a 6th man, but not as a negative.
If that ever happens, then it will be more of an issue. Now it doesn't matter, at all. Then it would be the difference in winning or losing some important games.
