Kirilenko appreciation page

One of the most spectacular and crowd-pleasing Jazz players of all time!
I hope they will retire his number! He deserve it!

....retire his number??? Only after he gives back about 3/4 forths of the money he actually stole....impersonating a professional basketball player while playing for the Jazz! And the only crowd pleasing I ever remember was his fumbling away pass after pass like he was some kind of circus clown! However, he had this going for him.....up until recently, he was tattoo-less!

Holy ****. Retire his number? What the hell did he contribute? The dude had a ton of athletic ability but was oft-injured, played with little to no passion half the time, and never improved his craft for no other reason than what we can presume was a mediocre work ethic. Should we (the proverbial we) retire Derrick Coleman's number too?

Hilarious that I got neg repped for this by a user named, surprise, AKMVP. According to him, I'm biased. Really? So AK is not oft-injured, inconsistent, lacking passion and lacking any improvement in his game over the last several years?

Not that I really care about a negrep, but my last one was because I said I like Rondo. Sheesh.

I still think Kirilenko's No. 47 jersey should be retired by the Jazz!

Yeah. Let's retire his jersey for being the single biggest reason that Jazz team stalled on the court and in the locker room. As long as it's clear it's being retired in infamy, go for it.

Here are a couple of things I will miss:

I couldn't go out with a girl who dressed like that...

(wait for it)

The jersey retirement won't happen. To be honest, the bar for jersey retirement on our team has already been set too low (Darrell Griffith?!).

Darrell Griffith deserved to have his Jersey retired...
1. The "Golden Griff" is the only player to ever win Rookie of the Year honors in the franchise's 41 year history.
2. He was instrumental towards bringing the franchise to respectability in the pre-Stockton/Malone era.
3. During the early years of the 3 point line - He held the NBA record for most 3-pointers made in a single season (twice)
4. Played his entire career for the Utah Jazz.
5. Was a perfect "citizen" both as a player on the Jazz and his involvement with the community. Never heard of any negative press about the guy during his time in Salt Lake City.

However, I agree with others that AK doesn't deserve to have his jersey retired. He had a few really good seasons, but he also brought a lot of baggage that tarnished his legacy in Utah.

AK was a ****ing crying little *****, plain and simple.

Soft or not, he was a game changer. In close games he proved that his defense can win games.

He had lot of injuries because he played with big intensity every night. He had that emotional outburst during the playoffs but he said in that interview that he will play hard anyway no matter how many millions he has. This is something to respect. In addition he said he was willing to revise his contract because he had the feeling he was not deserving that huge contract.

His frustration was licit, I saw so many games in which he was totally ignored offensively by his teammates and not involved in the Jazz offense. His offense was not great but not that bad either.

Not to mention that he has been an exemplar sportsman both on and off the court.

There's nothing exemplar about crying like a little bitch in the locker room.

1. Who cares? Tyreke Evans shouldn't get his jersey retired either. Nor should a lot of rookies of the year. The award doesn't mean anything. Does anyone really think it's meaningful that he got this award instead of Kevin McHale? It's probably more important that he never was selected to an all-star game.
2. Being the second or third best player on a team that made the second round of the playoffs isn't good enough to get your number retired. Sorry.
3. So what? We're not electing Dale Ellis to the hall of fame for being an early three point adopter either.
4. So did Robert Whaley
5. Don't care.

Darrell Griffith should not have his number retired. It sets the bar too low. Carlos Boozer or Memhmet Okur have a much better case.

There's nothing exemplar about crying like a little bitch in the locker room.

And here's the real thing about AK: Those who hate him do so largely on the basis that he doesn't comport with their notions of masculinity. That was Jerry's problem with him as well. Sports is the last place where you're allowed to shame men for not being cowboys. Even the language we're using here is gendered.
