Knicks may be open to trading their pick for multiple, lower picks

Obviously picking a future star would be great but that's not a given in this or any draft, and frankly I would be happy drafting some stud role players to really round out this team over the next three years.

Our starting 8 are pretty much being set like drying cement. I believe we will want to keep all of those players for a long time. In order to afford that we will need to add pieces and parts cheaply which we can do through the d-league of the 187 picks that we have coming to us in the next 5 years. Somebody somewhere has really thought this through. . .

The Knicks #1 problem is hitching their wagon to Melo.

This. It is almost that getting a "name" player to maintain their relevancy was the primary motivation, "will he be able to actually ball here?" was the secondary.

The best bet is if NY ends up at 3, and towns/okafur go 1-2. Jazz could then move up to 3 from 12 and get russell. If NY loses the lottery, and is picking 4th and the top 3 are gone, jazz may be able to move up for Johnson. They don't have the ammo to move in to the top 2 I don't think.

"Knicks may be open to trading their pick"? First, this Chris Herring. I doubt Phil Jackson is confiding in him. Secondly, he's responding to someone who asked "Would you deal the No. 1 pick if you're the Knicks for the Sixer's No. 3 and 11? He's speculating that IF the Knicks were to trade the pick, they might be interested in a moving down to get multiple picks.

Actually, the Knicks' problems go in this sequence:

1. Scotty Layden.
2. Obtaining anyone with a Utah connection.
3. Attempting build a massively overpriced roster filled with the league's largest assembly of undersized power forwards.
4. Isaiah Thomas.
5. Attempting build a massively overpriced roster filled with the league's largest assembly of shoot-first point guards.
6. Melo.
7. Continually believing they can take on character problems with a team/franchise that has no foundation or leadership.

Also add Mark Jackson in there somewhere for good measure.

The Knicks will never align the primes of Carmelo and a 19 year old. Wiggins got traded for the same reason. It's common sense they will shop the pick to get Carmelo his "Robin".

Well that makes sense however the idea of trading away the pick for the sole purpose of trading down is terrible.

His Robin? You mean Bullwinkle?

Rocky is way ****ing cooler than that douche.

Sorry. His Boo Boo? I thought JR Smith made a compelling case for that.

Knicks aren't trading a top pick for a later pick and future assets. If they trade, it won't be with Utah, unless we give up one of our players that we aren't giving up. Exum is going nowhere, so let's not even mention that anymore.

Sounds like if Lindsey wants Russell or one of Towns/Okafor - assuming the lottery shakes out in its current order - it likely could be done without giving up anyone on our current roster, We have the assets in multiple first round future picks to make the deal.

If Knicks were to trade the pick, seems far more likely that they'd do it to move down/get multiple picks than to get a star in return.

very very very dubious. One reporter says "seems more likely" Seems very unlikely. They want to win now, why would they add multiple players who are not likely stars? Especially since they can probably buy later first for cash and a future 2nd.
