Sorry stats dont really mean much to me. Kobe and Lebron could put up way better numbers and even win more than Jordan but they are not better. The same for Kobe and Lebron for me. Kobe had an elite way of stepping up when really needed and won when the crunch was on. Kobe was unstoppable in this league in his prime when he needed to win. Lebron is putting up a good fight in this series but just stat stuffing the last couple games. Kobe would be guarding Curry if he was playing this game at the end of every quarter and when he got hot. Lebron doesnt have the desire that other greats had, he just likes to pimp himself after losses and complain about how he was treated in the game.

Don't forget collapsing on the floor from sheer exhaustion due to the amazing way he apparently does lots of things, or something.


Also, custom built dream-team consisting of 2 proven all-stars AND LeBron failed to get it done for half of the years he was in Miami, even after adding a 4th all-star for the final attempt. Not the best way to build a legacy.

This will hurt his legacy the most. Leaving his hometown and team that drafted him to make a handpicked custom team build to win not 1.... then going .500. I dont think any other great in the prime of their career like Lebron was would have lost those series. If lebron had won those 2 things would be different. But I dont know if winning a couple more will change what happened for me in Miami. Plus after bailing on his hometown for a better team, he bailed on his friends and custom built team to go to what he thought was a better team. He didnt go to Cleveland because he missed it, he went because he saw more of an opportunity to win.
 
I'm not saying Lebron isn't great and doesn't deserve to be the conversation as best player, but Cmon, saying he's much better than Kobe and it's not close, isn't right either.
 
Regular season: LeBron hands down. Maybe even over MJ.
Playoffs: Kobe in a heartbeat.

Kobe just has a killer instinct that LBJ lacks, imo. Or at least does not have in the same quantity or intensity as Kobe does/did.

kobe had some bad playoff runs too. when he quit on his team against the suns. when he shot poorly against celtics. etc, etc.

Yep. He had bad games and bad series. So did LBJ. So did Malone. So did Jordan for that matter. Point still stands.

....not including the p.poor playoff showing against the Pistons in 2005, when the Lakers got whacked 4 out of 5 games mainly because Kobe shot 38% from the field and less than 20% from 3 point land!
 
Lebron is the better player. As a fan though, I like Kobe more I think he's a great villain that is very comfortable in that role and just seems like a more genuine dude/*******.
 
I get that this quote came after just losing the finals, so some disappointment is inevitable. But I just cannot imagine Kobe or MJ or Magic, or really any other superstar I have heard and read these kinds of interviews from, saying anything like this:

I've missed the playoffs twice. I lost in The Finals four times. I'm almost starting to be like I'd rather not even make the playoffs than to lose in The Finals. But then I lock back in and I start thinking about how fun it is to compete during the playoffs and the first round, the second round, and Eastern Conference Finals. If I'm lucky enough to get here again, it will be fun to do it.

But put my body through a lot, you know, but it's the price for your body feeling this way for winning. Did I win? I didn't win a championship, but I've done a lot of good things in this first year back, and hopefully I can continue it.

Anyone who doesn't understand this concept should just stop watching basketball. The only debate should be Jordan vs. Lebron. Kobe doesn't belong in that conversation.

i think it's a normal reaction. 2nd place loser always has the biggest heartache. he is human. he lost 4 finals. that's deflating. he also lost many playoff series because his team was inferior talent wise.

kareem, magic, russell, wilt too.

right now Bron is a modern day Wilt. the greatest talent yet falls little short on the big stage. but i firmly believe he will win more. he will accomplish so much as long as he stays healthy.

....excellent comparison! And Wilt didn't have the best supporting cast, either...except when he won that championship with the Lakers! His 1st championship with the 76ers was against the Warriors in Rick Barry's rookie season! By the way, Rick Barry averaged 35 points his rookie year!
 
They are in similar tiers, but to me at this point it's pretty clearly Lebron. You can have the conversation for sure, but other than "ringz" and a longevity edge I can't really see too much in Kobe's favor.
