Nets agree to deal with Outlaw; Korver Next

"Multiple sources have confirmed The Nets agreed to a five-year, $35 million deal with Travis Outlaw. And independent sources told The Post that former Jazz sharpshooting guard Kyle Korver will sign with the Nets, too".

I'm not saying this isn't true or counting out the possibility, but I just talked to a source very close to Korver who said he is waiting at least until LeBron is signed. They're going out to dinner tonight to watch the decision and to talk about all of their options.

Not that all of this is coming true, but I'm getting perplexed about what our line-up will look like next year.

Deron/Price/Gaines (?)
Matthews/Brewer (?)
Miles/Haywood/Brewer(?)/AK
Sap/AK
Memo/Fes/Koufos

Leaves a little to be desired. I'm most puzzled by the rumors about our re-signing Brewer. I liked him, but why would we be considering him (if we are) unless there is some fear of losing Matthews? If we re-sign Korver AND Brewer we'd be even further mired in our tweeners AND without Boozer or any suitable bigs save Sap.

No, we aren't re-signing Korver. Kyle was one-dimensional and even his FT-shooting declined last season. Let someone else pay him the MLE.

As far as Brewer is concerned, the main reason for letting him go was he wanted too much. The Jazz tried to extend him before last year and talks went nowhere. Now, after his injury, and knowing he really isn't a starter, I think he'd be happy to get a contract between $2-$3M. With AK playing 50% of his minutes at PF and Kyle gone, there's a wing position available. Brewer will be a good backup and he can be a spot starter if necessary. And, if CJ or Matthews miss a few games, Utah is a lot better off with Brewer getting major minutes instead of Jeffers.

Besides, I think bringing him back is a good move in terms of making Deron happy. Bring back his little buddy - say it was either a mistake or the franchise really needed to save $5M. Then you sign Augustine to be the 13th man. That puts another couple of Deron's friends on the team.
