Porzingis would make a great 3rd big alongside Favors & Gobert, but I don't think it would be worth giving up all of the assets that it would likely require to move up for someone who would be coming off of the bench & is far from a sure thing. Worst case scenario, he looks like Bargnani with hustle/effort, which isn't a bad player, but not somebody worth overpaying for. He definitely has some Dirk potential in him, which is the reason he is one of the prospects in this draft that I would make a minor trade to move up for (such as #12/Burke/OKC 1st/GSW 1st), but considering all of the recent hype surrounding him, it looks highly unlikely that he falls far enough for us to trade up for him.

As for whoever suggested that DEN may trade up for #4, I've been thinking this as well & wondering if we could possibly get involved by absorbing Calderon's contract & including assets to move up to #7 in order to target Hezonja (although I still believe we would have to trade a wing or play Burks at PG if we were to acquire him). Considering who NYK have been working out, they appear open to moving down to #12(ish) so it could be a possibility.
 
Meh. Most guys drafted in the top 5 don't want to be coming off the bench for the foreseeable future. Is Porzingis willing to come off the bench behind Rudy and Favors? We have great chemistry right now and we don't want to add a player that might be disappointed in their situation.
 
I'm all in on Porz... Really like that guy. If he falls to #4 I think there is a real chance we could get him. We have a unique blend of stuff we can provide to NY to get the deal done.

They are looking at guys in our range... Payne, Frank, Lyles, and maybe a very outside shot at WCS. If we did a 3-way trade that went as follows I think it would be a fair offer for them:

Utah out: #12, Booker, Our 2016 pick top 3 protected, 2017 GSW pick and Trey Burke (if they want him)
Utah In: Porz and Calderon

NY out: #4 (porz) and Calderon
NY In: Taj Gibson, #12, and the 2017 GSW pick

Chicago Out: Gibson
Chicago In: Booker and Utah 2016 pick next year

Burke goes to whoever fills they need filler or we keep him if there is no interest by either team.

Chicago needs to cut a little salary and has a log jam at 4... NY gets a good defensive front court player a guy they like later and future draft asset... We get a guy who has potential to be a star and who adds a diverse skillset and a vet point guard who can shoot (he is overpaid, but I think I'd rather have him than Burke).

We aren't going to get an established star by aggregating our assets... those deals don't come up often and we don't fit the profile of a team that a star will resign with. If we get a star it likely comes from a top 5 draft pick... this gives us a chance.

If he's getting 20+ minutes a night it doesn't really matter as a rookie... he'll be fine. If he deserves to be a starter we have a great problem.

Utah trades: Trey Burke, Alec Burks, #12, 2016 First Rounder

New York trades: #4, with which the Jazz take Kristaps Porzingis.

The more I see this kid, the more I like what he already is and what I believe he can become. He matches a lot of what we need and can justifiably get the minutes he'll need, beginning this season, in order to reach his potential that much more quickly.

As for what we're giving up, Trey and Alec are both expendable in my eyes. They both still have value in a trade. Including this year's #12 is the only way the trade gets done, and I reckon next year's 1st rounder will be somewhere in the low 20s range, so no big loss. And I think there's enough value there overall for NYK to bite.

Giving up what amounts to 4 first rounders (3 maybe 4 lottery) for a project that could turn into Darko Milicic seems like an overpay. I might consider any combination of the 3.
 
Interesting write up by an American living in Israel who saw a lot of Porzingas. Feels like the Vegas workout highlighted his strengths and pushed him higher than where he should go. Thinks he is a lottery pick but not top 5 and that Hezonja is the better prospect.

Although, I have to admit, after reading the Porzingas interview where he said that one of the things he was looking forward to in coming to the U.S. was that he could get into a gym any time he wanted to and work out when others were sleeping kind of convinced me he won't be another Darko. Ford loves Porzingas and Givony loves Hezonja. It will be interesting to see which one turns out to be an all star.

I went back and watched his in game footage... guy is unreal. His workout just showed me how big he is... the angles in the game footage don't really show that his head is at the rim when dunking.

I've got a feeling on Porz. His numbers are just as good as Mirotic's when he was a 23 year old. I think his floor is Mirotic and his ceiling is Dirk.... Dude ain't Darko so stop.
 
Pretty sure we need to trade hayward favors and gobert for porkzingers.
 
All this trading Favors talk for guys who aren't established all stars is making me sad.

I think we have an outside shot at getting Porz without trading Favs. I wouldn't trade Favs for him... just can't do it too disruptive.

As much as I don't want to see Burks or Booker go, I could live with that.

I don't want to see any of Gobert/Favors/Hayward/Exum traded though (of course, exceptions can always be made but they are pretty unrealistic exceptions), and I'd prefer to not see Hood/Burks/Booker go either. Still, Proz may be worth it for the 2nd tier guys. That being said I really like the chemistry this team has and would almost rather see the Jazz keep the 12 or move up a bit if it involves Burke.

Well, the future of the Jazz still depends on Gobert and Exum both reaching close to their potential over the next couple years. We're still in a rebuild as it is. We have turned the corner so-to-speak if the goal is getting to the #5 or #6 seed in the west, but if the goal is a little higher, I could see the Jazz take one more swing for the fence.

Exum, Hood, Hayward, Porzingis and Gobert is a pretty nice unit, with Hayward being the veteran leader of sorts.

Yeah, I think some people are getting a little too caught up in the draft hype and are underrating our current players. I like Porz as a prospect, but he's got big question marks on the defensive end. I've said this before, but I'm going to continue going on record that Utah will have their best squad since S&M next year. We are already a better road team IMO than the year we went to the WCF with Deron. Also, I disagree about Gobert's development being crucial to how far this team goes. He's already one of the single biggest impact players in the league. Utah can go deep in the playoffs with Rudy regardless of how much more he develops.

Agree on most of this. Porzingis isn't a slam dunk. If you can get him without giving up your top 6 players (Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Hood, Burks and Exum) then go get him. They should keep seeing how the pieces fit before moving any out this offseason. Gobert is special and will be a major factor in the team's success regardless of additional development. I think the key to success is Exum. If he can play offensively like the pre-draft hype, while maintaining or improving his defense - he will be special. If he's a franchise caliber player, Utah is positioned nicely for the future.

I am fully on board with this. I want to add though that I think Hood is our wing scorer, and may end up being our first solid all-star. I see so much of Alan Houston in him, and the flashes he showed during his rookie year may be the best we have seen in a rookie in the 2000's, outside of Deron. I think he is going to shock people next year. I think we are literally 2 people away from a championship: a 3rd big, and an upgrade at point (starter or bench makes no difference). I really think we are going to take the league by surprise next year. I think 50 wins are well within reach.
 
If we have to trade any of Favors, Gobert, Hayward, or Hood for a draft pick then the pick is not worth it. I'd hesitate to trade Exum and Burks for a draft pick as well.
