Kyle Filipowski Hype & Appreciation thread

I honestly haven’t been as excited about a Jazz rookie since Deron.

This kid could become one of our best yet.
Flip had so far shown that he’s:

- not very athletic
- not all that tough physically
- slow on defense (basically a traffic cone at times)
- not big enough to guard 5s and not quick enough to guard 4s
- doesn’t hustle on defense
- doesn’t have a consistent 3 point shot (yet)

To me there are lots of concerns there, things he needs to work on physically and mentally.

But all Cy could say is “ohhhhhh… but he can passssss”

Gee dude, we get you’re a contrarian, but maybe take look at the whole picture once in a while?
Oh wow, these post are 6 days apart.

So am I still a contrarian? Or maybe I'm a visionary.

You’ve self proclaimed yourself a contrarian numerous times…
I have not. If I've said that, it's only a joke because it's what people like yourself say when they cant talk ball.

But I'm glad you came around. It's just funny how someone can go from what you were saying 6 days ago, which was just to completely **** over a positive thread and try to fill it with negativity, to you now being a clown who is overhyping to compensate for how wrong you were initially.

I call it as I see it. Flip was poor the first 5 games but have since turned it on, so I’m applauding that.

I’m always 100% honest with my take.

But look who’s trying to fill this positive thread with negativity… lol..

He's like a combo between Dirk, young Arvidas Sabonis and Jokic... and a bit of Lauri, but Lauri is much more athletic than all of those fools... ;)

Here's what I gathered from summer league:

Cody - TMac with McDaniels defense and Durant's shooting

Collier - Westbrook mix with Gary Payton defense

Flip - Dirk with Jokic passing and Lauri athleticism

Taylor Hendricks is Garnett but with better defense

Keyonte is MVP season Derrick Rose if Derrick Rose could splash the 3.

Sensabaugh is a rich mans black Larry Bird

Im filling it with truth. Separate the fake from the real.

On a serious note, I think Kyle showed his strength and weakness that I expected from the draft process. His passing is great, he plays hard, can create his own shot a little, and he can move his feet a bit on the perimeter. Having said that, he needs to figure out the shooting from distance or at the rim. It's going to be extremely tough to make things work if he's poor at converting in those areas. Additionally, I worry about his ability to do the big man things. He's undersized as a 5....but his offensive gifts aren't as special if he's playing next to a rim running 5. Not much has changed as far as my opinion on him. He was a great bet at #32.

He's also a great offensive system fit....which is interesting because the other 3 centers on the team are all high PnR type bigs.

For me he’s a 4 in this league.

I still go back to the old saying “you play the position you can guard”.

I think he would get overwhelmed too much defensively at the 5 against the likes of Edey, Jokic and Embiid.

You're talking to a guy who has been a troll-baiting troll for well over a decade. What are you expecting, exactly?

I'm not anti Flip, but it should be pointed out that the Pistons SL defense was about as bad as I've ever seen.
It's not so much Piston's defense that needs to be taken into account but the abnormal role. Filipowski will not be the main offensive player on the Jazz. He is drafted to be a role player and glue guy. And he played this role in the previous SL games, with mixed results.

In the Pistons game he was the only regular Jazz player on the roster so the rest of the guys were clearly deferring to him and let him be the man. This will not happen again in the regular season and I think that the previous SL games are more relevant if we want to get a glimpse of what player he could be for the Jazz.

Well, by the same count he will be equally overwhelmed defensively at the 4 against the likes of Giannis, Zion and Banchero. In reality, he will not be facing them but play against bench 4s and 5s. He could be OK against bench bigs.
