Losing another defender after Bradley and not upgrading Thomas on the defensive end on top of it. Horford is a smart defender but I don't think Smart and Hayward will be enough help.
Kyrie is definitely an upgrade defensively over IT, hell pretty much anyone is. Kyrie is a guy who can play defense if he really tries and wants to. IT can try his heart out and still be the worst defender in teh NBA.
I think this would also give them cap-space next year?
I would do the trade if I were Boston. Kyrie has 3 years on his contract, Thomas has 1 and he will get close to the max somewhere.
It's just Kyrie isn't a significant upgrade over Thomas defensively and they are losing another backbone of their defense. It's a cause for concern.

If that Shams deal is real the Cavs murdered Ainge.
I just don't see it from Boston's side. Upgraded their PG spot imo (better deal, younger), but at the price of Crowder and a lotto pick in a stacked looking draft (Zizic as a throw in)? Just way too much to pay.
Will be a bit interesting to see if Cleveland tries to turn that BKN pick into more help against the Warriors or as the start of a rebuild in case of LeBron leaving.
Just looking at what Boston has now, it's a big 3 of Kyrie/Hayward/Horford and hoping Brown/Tatum pan out. That's not a contender unless one of the young guns turns into a superstar, and that probably happens after Horford is finished falling off the cliff (at the same position as Hayward as well).
If I'm the Cavs I try to trade the Brooklyn pick for Demarcus Cousins.
salary cap......
