Lake Mead Rising

Just when Lake Mead has been drawn down to record low levels, in the middle of a projected drought. . . . . The Pinaapple Express hits.

Called a "hundred year flood", it's hot on the heels of 2005's "hundred year flood".

global warming?

Not that this is the definitive answer, but...

The mini ice age starts here

By DAVID ROSE

The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists.
Their predictions – based on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans – challenge some of the global warming orthodoxy’s most deeply cherished beliefs, such as the claim that the North Pole will be free of ice in
summer by 2013.
According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this.

global warming?

Prior to this past week's monsoon, the Colorado Basin had been posting an above-average precipitation and snowpack stat: 123% for prec., 106% for snowpack. Lake Mead was about 35%, with total system content of about 54% versus 56% this time last year. The growth of Las Vegas in the past twenty or more years is forcing drastic measures for conservation and alternative sources.

But in one week, much of the lower Colorado Basin experienced a year's worth of rain/snow. The Virgin River at St. George was clocking streamflows equal to the average Colorado River streamflows, about one hundred times average Virgin flows. The Muddy river was flooding, along with every dry stream run. Beaver Dam wash was running at about one fifth of the flooding Virgin, and washing homes away in Arizona. Flooding was reported along the washes and streams of Kane County and Northwest Arizona as well. Even Vegas itself was pouring large streams into the lake.

The proximate cause is the declining Gulf Stream warm water flows towards Europe, resulting in a colder than normal winter going on across Europe and into Siberia. As this colder air flows across the Pacific it has dug a deep course towards Hawaii, picking up huge amounts of tropical moisture, which has recently focused flow on the US Southwest. California has had tremendous amounts of rain as well.

I've read these reports and agree with them.

One interesting fact of science research into our climate cycles is the finding that all recent ice ages have been preceeded by a short very warm up-tick. It takes a warm ocean to sustain wintertime precip over the land masses that will provide deep snows and increased reflectance from the surface to initiate the ice age.

I'm convinced we face an imminent ice age rather than a catastrophic hot excursion.

Can't we just hurry up and pay Al Gore a ton of money to stop all this? Or is it too late?

I think that, and giving up our sovereignty to the wisdom of The Club of Rome are the best options here.

"The common enemy of humanity is man.
In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up
with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming,
water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these
dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through
changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome.
The real enemy then, is humanity itself."

Babe? Are you from Mesquite? I grew up there. Anyways Lake Mead needed this water badly. Last time I went to Mead the entire area I grew up water skiing on was a covered in grazing cows.

My mom and some of my cousins are from Overton. My dad lived in Henderson and worked for Timet and DRI. I've lived in St. George, Salt Lake, and out near Ely.

I'm trying to talk SNWA into doing desal instead of draining the Great Basin. Think Reid could get a huge Fed project going to pipe seawater to the Salton Sea, build a huge---Hoover Dam-scale--- desal plant there, replacing the California and Arizona agricultural share of the Colorado River and adding to the metropolitan shares of the Colorado River water?

Global warming is real folks. I'm heavily buying inland property, especially in California. I'll be laughing all the way to the bank when it's beachfront. You all better look out when the seventh seal of Revelations is opened. Hellfire and torment will be released. I've developed an advanced data parsing software that estimates 11 degrees C rise from the seventh seal, which translates into precisely 48.29 kilometers inland wash--that's what we in the Future Billionaire Club are calling it anyway.

Good news folks! You too can join this exclusive group and gain access to our database of viable future oceanfront properties for the low price of $44.95. But wait, there's more! Order within the next 12 minutes and we'll throw in our proprietary Mayan interpreting tool, a $299.00 value, absoooolutely free! Not only will you make oodles speculating on beachfront properties, but you'll have the tool necessary to unlock the true secrets to the end of days. And that's not all! Act now and we'll rush ship the software and Mayan tool with free shipping. We'll also include our proprietary blend of iodine crystals at no cost to you. The life saving properties of iodine after nuclear fallout are truly priceless, and we're including them absolutely free of charge! But you must call now...

Nice try, franklin, but you won't score like Algore will on his scheme. . . . .

Former Enron official Rory Reid, son of our illustrious Senate Majority Leader, is banking on draining the Great Basin and making a new Owen's Valley so his Nevada Power/Southern Nevada Water Administration can turn a nice profit and the Strip can build on out to the California Border.

My idea of doing massive desal would mean your winter veggies could be grown on US soil, and keep that shoreline back a km or two. Considering that desal is a growning business worldwide, now producing 3.5B gal/day worldwide, and doubling every ten years. . . . perhaps you need to include that in your shoreline projections. . . .
