Las Vegas Summer League Game Thread: July 11th - Utah Jazz vs. Miami Heat 7:30 PM PST

Lyles wasn't judged after 2 SL games. He was judged the minute was was drafted. People go into these games seeing the performances thru their rose colored glasses. Confirmation bias in perfect display.

Happened with Hayward, Burke, Kanter, Gobert...

Not everyone has the clutch gene.

You guys on this board are absolutely dilusional and terribly wrong about nearly everything you say, but you cant get much wrong than this. Not sure if you were being sarcastic here, but Cotton just came off a game where he essentially single handedly won it in OT. Seriously, i dont know what the internet situation is in Utah but maybe do some research before posting next time?

I know when Trey was drafted, probably no one on this board was more amped about it than me. Y'all are seriously tripping though.

Is this the Summer League overreaction thread or the game thread?? some of these takes are lacking perspective..

Lyles was pressing a bit or slightly spooked. Which isn't the worst thing, it happens, let him get that out of the way. I'm sure he's furious about that showing...

Ya gotta remember - he's just getting his feet wet.

The Summer League is where NBA Legends such as Von Wafer, John Salmons and Josh Selby win MVP's.

Where Michael Beasley dropped 28 in his debut in 20 minutes vs a sub-par showing from Derrick Rose(which I'm sure SOME tried to draw conclusions over)..

Didn't Durant have a rather unspectacular SL??

I agree with this. Summer League as sole eval is not that accurate.

What I do see in Lyles is a big who is quite fluid in his movements and who also shows good BBIQ. He is only 19 and has played a small forward in his KU contribution. There is no doubt he's a work in process and was drafted on potential. I think he does have potential as an agile PF and a floor stretcher. He could be a pick an pop guy... Lyles looks 'smooth' to me and maybe this grace of sorts is what Jazz are referring to balance. DL drafted K Leonard who was a gifted athlete and taught him how to shoot. I think Lyles is a very raw specimen who will be getting excellent developmental coaching. All the frets over flat shot and poor FT shooting are non-issues as this point.

Best thing I can say about Lyles right now is that he's being aggressive. That's a big deal early on. Long term, if the shots don't fall, it will be a major issue obviously, but for now I hope he keeps attacking.

I guess the good news is Lyles looks like he will be decent for us. The bad news is Oubre, Portis, and Booker may have given us more of what we need.

Only time will tell. At least Lyles isnt a bust.

Neither am I. I just thought Portis played well. He showed a lot of the qualities I thought we wanted/needed.

Should be interesting to see how the rest of SL plays out.

I was in favor of trading back and picking Portis. Long-term, I guess we'll see, but IMO, Portis is a better player right now than Lyles.

After seeing Portis play, I feel like he gets it when he plays and he played very well because of it. As for Lyles, it's partially there but he seems like he's thinking about it too much and struggles because of it. Lyles needs to relax and let the game come to him.

Hayward was good in college though wasn't he?
Lyles was good in college too. Let's not forget he played out of position and played on maybe the deepest team ever played fewer minutes and had to defer due to playing out of position
People here so quick to judge. We are complaining about a guy why has 17 free throws attempted in under 48 minutes played.

Cy screams- "he has 17 FTA GUIs!"

I scream they have 10 fouls to give each! Don't care about that. I'm not one time say this guy is bust just don't like him, didn't need him and there are better options. when I say waste I mean he should not take him wth so much better players on the board.

I didn't see anyone else shooting as many as he did. I know he missed a lot but he did shoot 73% at Kentucky last year. I think nerves could have something to do with that.

i was driving the bandwagon for Lyles. He was who I wanted. U were the second happiest. Was very happy Utah picked him. Also pretty much everyone who has had good SL for Utah as a draft pick has busted.

While Lyles didn't play well he showed tons of potential. Not many 4's in the NBA will be able to stay in front of Lyles when he drives. Will lead to a lot of dunks for Favors and Gobert.

Many people already thought we got homeruns just because the Jazz drafted them. That is also confirmation bias booyah. Only Gobert is a home run.

Lyles was good in college too.

I disagree.
There may have been good reasons (His team was too loaded, he played out of position, very young, etc) but imo he was not very good last year.

Hat I meant was he was good considering the conditions he was playing under. Put him on Haywards Butler team, and I think he'd have been quite good.

Maybe.
He would have to make shots though.
With lyles I think it comes down to that. Will he ever be consistent and shoot a good percentage from the outside? (Not necessarily three point land, but at least from mid range)
If yes, then I think he will be good. If not, a bust then

I never said it wasn't. It works both ways.

But you should change your name to Confirmation Bias.
